Hola from Buenos Aires!
Really hope you´re all doing well. We are officially one month into our travels now and we´re ready to head to the west-side! We´re flying to Lima tonight which is a stop-over on our way to Guayaquil in Ecuador. I can´t believe we´ve only been away for a month, it seems like we´ve been away for a lot longer as we´re well used to the backpacking lifestyle now. Although in fairness we´ve have had it fairly easy so far....no cold showers yet and not a sign of a bedbug!
We´ve spent the last 6 days in Buenos Aires which has been really great. When we arrived at the hostel we had hardly taken the rucksacks off our backs and Ger had bought tickets to go to a Boca Juniors game. It was the first game of the season and our only opportunity to go to a game here so we hopped on a bus straight to the stadium! We ended up standing in a terrace among all the mad Argie football fans going crazy whenever Boca attacked. The game finished 4-0 to Boca with all the goals scored in the second half in the goal just below us so everyone went home very happy!
The next few days were spent getting to know BA a bit more as well as some much needed retail therapy. Our nights were mainly spent with friends from home who are living in BA so they were brilliant for organising gigs that all the locals go to. A massive thank you to Siobhán and James for everything!!
On Friday we went to Uruguay for the day! The town we visited was very quiet, a place called Colonia, but it was really pretty so we just spent the day touring around and drinking coffee by the water!
Last night was spent at a Tango show with a twist! There were so many local people dancing lots of different types of traditional dances which was great to see. We also met up with a couple of friends from home who are finishing off their trip so we got lots of advice from them.
Must go now and pack the bags for the flight. We will put up our pictures soon. Hopefully we´ll get a chance to do it when we get back from the Galapagos.
To all the teachers in Edinburgh reading this - hope your summer was brill and best of luck with the start of the new session on Monday!! 6 weeks is far too short.....go on strike maybe, it always seems to work for the Irish teachers, dossers!!
Lots of love,
Linda and Ger xxx
