After spending three and a half weeks in Indonesia flying into Singapore was such a contrast of culture. The streets are clean, the skyscrapers are amazing, the transport system is super high tech and there are beautiful gardens everywhere. Singapore is definitly one of Asia's success stories as it is ranked one of the wealthiest countries in the world.
Although, all of this does come with a pretty large price tag. The Singapore dollar is pretty much the same as NZ and in the five days we spent there we definitly spent a lot more than we had planned to. It was so worth it though! It was amazing to see all the new technology. We talked to a local who travels for work quite abit. He said that everytime he left and came back there would always be something new and expensive built.
Our first night me and Owen ventured to Orchard Road. This road held all the glamour and class when it comes to fashion. It was home to Gucci, Dior, Prada, Armani, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co, Dolce & Gabbana, and so on. I walked into a Rolex shop to price watches. I looked at one that was awesome and for $50,000 US I could have had it. Orchard Road was also cool to walk down because there were a lot of street performers. We mustve stopped a few times just to gaze at the talents of strangers One group played the drums and it was the best we have seen yet.
The second day we went exploring through the mad swirl of skyscrapers. We managed to find a hotel that is three separate towers and on the top is a boat shaped ramp that connects the three together. It was called the sky park where tourists are able to go up and view the man made beauty of Singapore.
The next day me and Owen got up early and went to Universal Studios. This place is the bee's knee's. We were the first in line so as soon as those gates opened we went straight to the rollerscoasters. They were insane! Our legs were tangling going round corners, up side down, through big dried ice holes at 80km per hour. Also, the sets here are amazing. There are different themed villages such as the mummy, shriek, transformers, madagasgar, hollywood and the lost world. This theme park is definitly the best I have seen so far.
One night we ventured to a pub that is situated on the 72nd floor of a tower. We were there for two hours to watch the sunset and all of the pretty lights of the city. In those two hours we had two Tiger beers each. At $12 a pop we were able to control ourselves. These prices are quite normal for alcohol in Singapore.
Singapore was the perfect pit stop to recover from the rough and tumble of Indonesia. I cant wait to come back one day to see how much it has grown and what new technology has evolved.
