I also wrote this down later that night (technically August 10, but at 4:30 a.m.), and thought it was worth sharing: "Well, that was eerie. I was sitting up trying to choose classes for the semester and to upload videos for my blog, and suddenly I heard this amplified and echoing voice singing in classic Middle Eastern style, seemingly wordless, subtley accompanied with twanging strings. It was matched by a sort of vague chanting or moaning sound, and it was coming from the West Bank. It was clearly audible even though obviously amplified from some distance away, and it went on for several minutes, then stopped. It was almost comically interrupted a few times by the local rooster crowing very loudly (and nearer by), in the middle of the night. Granted, it's the month of Ramadan, but it was still very unexpected and eerie. I wonder how often it does that and I just sleep through it? Oh, now the music is starting again…"
