Well here we come to another end....I prefer to view our temporary stop as a hiatus rather than an end to our adventure. It can only end when we decide not start up again.....
After 38 days of traveling with very few breaks, I'm thinking the universe might be trying to tell us something. The bike is on life support, cpr being given hourly and a truck and trailer have been rented for the last 300 miles. Sad, relieved, frustrated but not defeated. It may be 6 months or more before we see the road again, but we will see it!
Now for the great and not so great stories of the last couple of weeks. Seems like more time has passed since the last update, but nope, with so many roads, so many towns, so many surprises (both good and bad), it's hard to recall everything and seems like a lifetime.
When we left Dothan, Alabama it was brutal cold and that didn't let up for 6 days which made traveling hard. Most days we could muster through and get our two hundred plus miles in but we met our match in Grove Hill, Alabama. Had to stop at a mom and pop motel in a town that was two blocks long....no 24 hour food here but the very best chicken biscuits EVER from the gas station! The days passed after that in brutal cold until we hit West Monroe, Louisiana. The worst place we've experienced for awhile. We arrived at the motel just as it started raining so we weren't completely soaked, just pretty damn wet. The one and only time I will stay at a Red Roof Inn. Go to check in and no rooms til 4 even though our confirmation says 3. No problem we can roll with the punches until I ask if they have a bathroom I can use and they tell me NO. Seriously, you have a buttload of dirty rooms and I can't use one of the toilets in them? Very unfriendly people there. Waited as long as we could, got back on the bike in the pouring rain to hit the facilities at the convenience store where we discovered they don't sell beer on Sunday....Oh Boy our day just got better!!!
Each stay and town was different and each has a story, some were better than others. Decatur Texas Econo Lodge upgraded us to a Jacuzzi tub when we ended up there frozen to the core. Don't have to tell you it was wonderful! In Lamar Colorado, the county commissioner changed the oil on the bike....didn't help keeping her on the road but it's a good story none the less. Pueblo West was my favorite stop and we all know why! What a surreal experience. Walking into a store, purchasing herb and walking out with it not hidden under your shirt or down your pants....lol. And the nice people at The Spot even gave us 2 nice shirts with our purchase.
The last couple of days have been spent mostly in the mountains of Colorado and the snow. I don't know why I was so surprised when the snow started showing up on the ground and thinking, wow, I really messed this one up but overall, not as bad as it could have been. It was cold but beautiful and the roads, treacherous but doable and in really good shape. Must be all the money they have pouring in from the herb sales. Dave even asked me if we should stop and have a snowball fight....that was a big HELL NO!
And now we come to the end on the road.......till we start again......
Much love and safe riding.....Dave and Debbie
