I can't believe that the moment has come: I am sitting at the airport of Kuala Lumpur about to board the plane that takes me back to Germany. After 8 months, 2 weeks and 4 days of traveling, it is time to go home.
Time for a resume:
I set my feet into 21 countries, slept in 93 different hostels, flew 37.644 miles by plane and drove I don't know how many km by bus, took hundreds of pictures, read 26 books, used litres of sunscreen and was lucky enough to not need to go to see a doctor.
What did Iearn?
Never try to go out without your passport in the USA, you will probably not get very far!
Take always a warm coat to New Zealand, it is possible that it snows even in the middle of summer!
Everything and even more you need, fits into a backpack!
Live the moment! Time is always now and the place is always here: Don't long for what has passed away nor be anxious over things that are yet to come. The past has left us, the future has not arrived!
Its not worth to worry! If there is a problem: find a solution! If there is no solution: move on!
It is a bad idea to travel with a knive in your hand luggage when you want to board a plane!
Guinea pig tastes like rabbit and frogs like chicken: nothing is what it seems, so try not to have any expextations. The beginner's mind guarantees that you get the most real experience.
They do half hours of time difference in Australia! I am sure they do that to confuse people.
The most beautiful place is just worth a photo but the people make the difference and make the experience unique! Thanks to Kirstin, Steffi, Christian, Esther, Lena who accompanied me on parts of this trip and also thanks to every new and old friend, I met along the way.
Everything is possible! Just ask for it!
Stay flexible!
I discovered that I can enjoy to not talk and be on my own for a certain time (who would have thought that of me? Me certainly not!)
Tiger balm is the best to relief the itch of moscito or other insect bites!
It's never enough time! Don't even try to fit everything in your schedule.
Trust your intuition! To do this journey was the best decision I ever made in my entire life! It felt so right in the minute, I handed in my notice at work, until now. I never doubted myself even if it got difficult or hard sometimes. And even if it means that I now come back to Germany with no job and no money left. I feel so much richer with a lot less than I had before. You have to make the most of your life, you only have one (I think :)) and if you live it right, one is enough.
Would I do something different?
Very few things, I would probably plan even less, don't buy a return ticket, just let the journey flow as it comes.
I am not done with the world yet, I haven't found what I was looking for so far, that's why I continue my search. For now I stay in Europe: The camino de Santiago is my next big project and I can't wait to start walking! Nearly 800km of walking, what a challenge! Let's see how far I can make it...
So far, so good, I am really looking forward to seeing some of you guys in person during the next few days! For those, I will not see, I hope you continue to come by this blog from time to time. My journey is not over yet, and until it is, I am going to keep writing and posting!
