After pulling into the capital, Ulaanbaatar, the honch took us to the hotel. We caught up on some sleep, had breakfast and headed to a monestary with a beast statue of a Buddha. They say not to take pics in temples/monasteries but one of the guys on the tour insists on getting a panoramic snap everywhere he goes. Luckily for him the CCTV in the monastery had a blind spot...
We roamed about the square, seeing 'Mongolia's White House' and went to their history museum. After getting to know the new honch, Getso, over a 3L keg in pub, we went to catch a traditional Mongolian show. The music was really cool, and the singers sound like they're throwing effects over their voices but apparently are just singing from the belly! They had a bunch of dancers all dressed up, and topped it off with a couple contortionists.
Everyone was pretty keen to go to the Genghis Khan statue/museum the next day, which is quite a distance from the capital but we reached it after some pretty serious off-roading in our minibus. We went up the statue and got a couple decent snaps of the area. The honch took us back into the capital and to his favourite spot to grab a bite. This'd be my first hotpot, accompanied by my first sake bomb - both went down pretty well! We went on to a cocktail bar, played some Mongolian drinking games and then to a club. Some of the team were picking up bottles of chinggis khan vodka, so I kicked in a couple cans of coke as a chaser to even the situation financially... If you step on someone's foot in Mongolia, both people involved have to shake hands/apologise/forgive. Getso had told us he'd use this to meet girls, and true to his word, he was walking around the club stepping on girls feet left and right!
