Off to the Canyons. This is Zuzka's favourite place in Slovakia. If the cave and the Thermal Park weren't her favourite, we knew it meant that this was going to be a definite treat! We were right. After a quick visit to a church with an animated wooden-carved multi-scene "Bethlehem", we arrived at our starting point. It was a 2 hour hike through gorges and up to dizzying heights. We have walks like this in our mountains, but we rarely get to go right into the bottom of the gorges. The first half of the hike was at ground level, crossing back and forth over the stream (sometimes through the water), and then going up, up, up where we found ourselves looking down into the same canyons. We had a wonderful time and topped off the event with some ice cream.
When we got back to Varin, Emilia had made us supper - a delicious Indonesian tasting rice dish. After enjoying this meal, it really was time to leave, so we headed for the train station. Marian met us in Zilina and helped us settle into our train, so despite the hot day, we had very comfortable conditions heading for Prague and the Czech Republic.
