After a nice homemade breakfast at the hostel, we headed for the Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin's Zoo). The exhibits included crocodiles, alligators, native snakes, iguanas, monitors, skinks, cassowaries, dragons, dingoes, Tasmanian devils, tigers, elephants and more. What we liked most was how interactive everything was. We got to pet koalas, kangaroos, and wallabies. Everything was well kept and shady and lush and the animals all seemed happy and very active. We made it in time to watch the "Wildlife Warriors" show at the world famous Animal Planet Crocoseum and, though it was quirky and much of it was geared to a younger audience, we enjoyed it nonetheless. Overall, Connor's favorite part was the croc show and Tessa loved the otters, while Margaret's favorite was sitting quietly in the rainforest aviary checking out the beautiful birds. Barry just loved everything. It was, without a doubt, one of our favorite zoo experiences.
We were advised by our hostel keeper in Harvey Bay that accommodation may be hard to come by down the coast and had consequently booked an "ensuite villa" for $150.00 a night at a caravan park in Alexandra Heads. When we made the booking, we repeatedly asked for something cheaper, but were told that there wasn't anything else available. When we got there, we again asked for something cheaper, but were told that there wasn't anything, so we checked in. We found out later that there was cheaper accommodation available, and it was a good lesson to us that you find dishonest people everywhere and it has nothing to do with race, religion or color - some people are just not honorable. We refused to let it ruin our day, however, and enjoyed our supper and then cuddled up for a movie. It really had been a great day.
