We caught trains from Bayeux to Paris, one Paris station to another, Paris to Brussels, and Brussels to Brugge today, and though we had to pay a supplement for the high speed train between Paris and Brussels, it included a fancy meal with wine, served right to our seats!
Upon our arrival to Brugge, we caught a bus to the hostel and got the last four beds: girls in one room; boys in another.
After settling in (making our beds, etc.), we walked to the town center and enjoyed the beautiful setting. Old, clean, and filled with churches, narrow streets, calm waterways and friendly people, Brugge is one of Margaret's favourite places. She remembered the square and market from her last visit when she was 17. In the town square, we ordered beer (us) and Belgium waffles (kids), and sat near a couple of Scottish teachers. It didn't take long before we were enjoying a lively discussion about travel, education, and our general impressions of Europe.
We enjoyed a walk afterwards, and then came back to the square and joined the crowd listening to a live band. Back at the hostel, we checked our E-mail and then settled in for a difficult night - the boys because they were sleeping with a snorer; and the girls because they were in a party room where the other four girls came in at four separate times during the night, making a lot of noise with each entrance.
