Jambo!! We finally arrived in Lushoto yesterday after an insanely long, hot journey from Yamba. We were supposed to be staying in a catholic hostel however when we arrived all the rooms were taken DOH so we were invited to stay in the Bishops house for the weekend LOL we feel so honoured! There are nuns walking around everywhere and we even got a visit from the bishop himself which kind of freaked us out! It was late last night, well prob about 9pm lol, and we heard a voice outside the house...then there was a knock on the window eeeek......we decided to just ignore it and maybe they would just go away!but the knocking continued and the voice got louder and louder so i pulled back the curtain and peered out. i couldnt see a thing but someone was talking to me just saying father, father!!so i said no, there is no father here tonight as we are staying here !and he said no I am the Father LOL woops!!
Kelly and I went for walk this morning in a hope to see the Irenti Viewpoint! We decided against hiring a guide for the trip as we thought we could just guide ourselves!! However, after about 1/2 hour of walking up hill in the searing heat we wondered why we had not come across any signs for this BIG tourist attraction?!all the locals were staring and laughing at us as we climbed higher and higher and whenever we asked anyone for directions they just nodded lol so when we reached what we thought was the top of the mountain we were pretty embarrassed to be met by a whole load of builders on a building site!!lol lets just say we made a quick exit and headed back down the path hoping we would see some fellow white people we could ask for help haha! Then, just as we thought we would head back to the hostel and try again later WITH a guide we came across a sign pointing to a path around the mountain as opposed to the path up the mountain that we had taken!DOH we should really learn to read signs!! so anyway after an age of walking past women carrying long sticks on their heads and little kids asking us for anything from money to pens we made it to the irenti viewpoint and WOW!! words cannot descirbe the absolutely stunning scenery...flat land for miles upon miles with a giant mountain in the middle and lush green trees everywhere...i have pics and will do my best to upload them!
i have to end this now before a power cut wipes this all off lol
