Our bikes are wearing seatbelts! You have to marvel at the simplest of solutions in Europe. There is, afterall, an answer for everything. We are going to St. Malo and Mont St. Michel for the weekend before coming back to Paris. We are taking our bikes of course. The process has been reasonably painless albeit expensive. We bought tickets for ourselves, and it's 10€ each for the bikes. Not all trains take them but you must reserve a spot for them (so they get there own seat and requisite belt). The connecting train from Rennes to St. Malo does not take bikes so we will ride the 70km to the beachside town. The decision was met with some incredulation by the ticket man in Paris. 'But it's too far, no?' Grin from me. Getting on the train was another matter, station staff looked at our tickets then at our bikes and back at us, one can only imagine how put out they felt thanks to us. But here we are, blogging, working, reading the International Herald Tribune (one of the best things about Europe), speeding south west towards the coast. Outside it's a beautiful day, a clear 23 degrees. Sigh. We are going to the beach. A little like going home, no?
