Yet again we failed to wake very early, due to it not getting light til 8 am . No swim today just carbo load breakfast for Graham . The race start was only a short distance from our hotel so we managed to there without any problem. The weather was sunny ,warm and no wind . The
race was several laps so I cheered Graham on at regular intervals . I stood in the same place for some time watching half marathon, marathon and 10k runners pass, I also managed to watch the hoards of elderly / obese holiday makers that today had to walk in to town as the roads were shut. It was a scary contrast. I don't think we fit into the second group yet or ever.

Graham finished undulating course with no problems winning his age group. He was even interviewed at the finish line, so maybe on the local TV We met up with the winning vet 60 lady who was British and her husband who was also running , yes there are other crazy couples like us. The British lady would have beaten me but I may have got second .
The couple were fell runners from Sheffield but were in Madeira for a month! That gave as food for thought would we want to spend every January in Madeira?
Graham was presented trophy and we wandered back to the hotel for lunch and a chill. We had some vouchers for the Spa so thought we should take advantage of the therapeutic pool, to soothe Graham's muscles. I have never really got into the spa experience but there was a variety of differing bubbles and jets, steam room and sauna, both of which were too hot. Then there was contrast showers which squirted water at you in different ways, so we were bubbled and steamed squirted and baked and then we did the laying around bit . Unfortunately the spa overlooked the the infinity pool outside which looked very inviting so I was soon bored with relaxing and we headed outside to the breezy terrace where the attendant told us that the water was cold. I was determined not to be put off and after a rapid couple of lengths got acclimatised . Graham was less eager, but knew he would never live it down if he wimped out so eventually took the plunge to do a few lengths before heading for a hot shower.

A quick walk and sampled the local beer before dinner.
