My first ever trip abroad as a 15 year old school girl was to Austria on a coach trip . We stopped off in Luxembourg and I had memories of this impressive setting of a bridge over a large ravine, so I wanted to see if I was equally impressed the second time round.
We slept well despite the heat. So made an early start after breakfast to see the sights of the city before it got too hot. We thought using the bus from outside the camp side would be a good option but we were too early as the first bus was not until 10.30 so we returned to our pitch and drove instead. Driving was not a problem and we even found free parking in a convenient location. With its old fortresses, walls, bridges and spectacular views it was well worth visiting .it is now a World heritage site.
We felt sorry for thousands of runners who were sweltering in the heat on a 6 km run up one of the many hills. We saw them at about halfway and a lot of them were walking. We maybe felt a little guilty as it was Sunday morning a usual running time in the Le Good household, tonight will be cooler.
We meandered around the streets and found a geocache, by which time we were feeling thirsty and decided that it was time to rest for while. So enjoyed some free musical entertainment in a city square while having a very nice early lunch. The temperature was still rising so we made our way back to the car having seen the various Cathedrals, Palaces and tourist spots but failed on a second geocache.
Returning to the campsite we headed into the showers for a cool down and changed into swim wear which I don't usually lounge around in but all our neighbours had moved off so we had our area of the campsite to ourselves and spent the rest of the afternoon not doing what most people do on their holidays, not a lot .We exerted ourselves enough to walk to the shop for an ice cream and Graham researching our evening run looking found we could walk to a nearly lake, maybe for a swim? So we set off though the woods and found the lakes where there was lots of picnickers but also no-swimming signs, but to be fair they looked a bit weedy. Anyway the woodland trails will be good for running later.
Some black clouds and heavy raindrops appeared and then stopped and then started again so Graham had spent the last half hour putting down the sides of the tent, putting them up again , putting them down again. This is what camping fun is all about! Anyway it's a lot cooler now so time for a run.
It was only a short run but included some strava segments for Graham only for him not be able to download them so his efforts were all in vain. We got back before the thunderstorm started.
Anyway the rain meant it was a cooler night.
