Hello everyone,
We can't believe the first leg of our trip in Asia is over and we are now off on our next adventure, Australia, which we are very excited about. We are so happy we decided to fly from Singapore, as it gave us the opportunity to see two more amazing places Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. What is even better is we got to spend another week with Chris and Judy, it was great to see them again and it was sad to say goodbye but we will be sure to reunite in England!
Kuala Lumpur
Our flight from Siem Reap to Kuala Lumpur was absolutely fine and only took just under two hours, which was nice and quick. We arrived at our hotel, grid 9 at around three o'clock and was greeted by chris and judy as they had stayed there the night before. We spent a few hours catching up and then headed to explore the city. Luckily for us this was chris and Judy's 2nd time to the city, so they knew their way around which meant me and lee could just follow them and didn't need to look at a map. They were great your guides.
Our hotel was right next to the monorail so we travelled everywhere on this, it felt a bit like being on the tubes in London just not underground. Our first night we visited time square, a massive shopping centre. As it has just been Chinese New Year, it was decorated beautifully with all lanterns, pink blossom trees and horses. Outside was the largest capsule vending machine, it was absolutely massive and holds a world record. We spent ages just taking in the sights, a complete contrast to our previous destination Cambodia, there was even a massive roller coaster in the shopping centre!
Lee couldn't believe his luck when he found out there was a nandos , he had the biggest smile on his face, so of course we had to go their for dinner. All four of us love nandos so this was a real treat. We were amazed to find out it is so much cheaper than England, so lee decided to buy a whole chicken and two sides all to himself and yes he ate the whole thing! The nandos was delicious and exactly the same as England, we had to drag lee away from going there two nights in a row.
The next day, we just explored the city using the mono rail. We soaked up all the sights and loved looking at all the high rise buildings and amazing hotels. We went to another shopping centre called the pavilion, it was absolutely gigantic, I don't think you could get round it all in one day, they had everything in there and again it was beautifully decorated for the year of the horse. Inside there was a Tokyo street, which was really interesting looking at all the shops and different food. Lee loved tasting all their different types of bread from orange to chocolate.
There were so many shops, topshop , ted baker, Tiffany's, mulberry, the list goes on. Put it this way it makes westfields look small and me and lee were saying it would be the perfect place for a massive shopping spree. If only!!!! The boys favourite place was the food court of course. There were so many lovely bakeries, cake and sweet shops. They spent ages sampling all the different sweets and lee loved this donut place so much he had two! They also spent about forty minutes in a massage chair shop trying out all the different demos lee was in his element and said he needs one of those £4000 chairs at home!
As it started to get dark we made our way across to the iconic petronas towers, which are now the largest twin towers in the world. We spent some time inside them which again has more shops, this time lee after sampling various flavours said he found the best ice cream he has ever tasted (white chocolate and Nutella). We also saw various models of the towers and Siem videos of how is was constructed. When we got outside to see the towers, it was a breathtaking view, they were all lit up and at the bottom was a beautiful water fountain show with music.
We were absolutely shattered after our busy day of walking around the city, so got an early night as we needed to catch a coach the next morning to Singapore. We really loved our short time in Kuala Lumpur it was a very cosmopolitan, modern and accessible city.
Singapore
We got the coach to Singapore, which took about seven and a half hours. The boys wanted to pay a bit more for the royal VIP coach, which has extra leg room. The coach was amazing, the chairs were like massive padded armchairs that completely reclined back with an electrical footrest. A completely different class the buses we have been use to. We even had a monitor each with music, films and games. So needless to say the journey was absolutely fine and very very comfortable.
We were staying in a lovely place in little India, called mitraa inn. All four of us stayed in a family room which was lots of fun. On our first full day in Singapore, we got a hop on and hop off city bus tour (like the London ones) with an audio tour. This was a great way to see all the main attractions of Singapore in a day. We visited the flyer (largest observation wheel in the world), the financial district, then harbour front, orchard road (the most amazing shopping centres) and china town. The buildings here were phenomenal, the boys were really impressed at the designs and architecture. We were even luckily enough to sneak in the ritz Carlton (the hotel was the nicest I have ever been in). We got up to the 32nd floor and the views were breathtaking we could see the whole city. That night we found a Thai restaurant and lee found a pad Thai, he was in his element and ate that every night for the next four nights!
The next day we went to universal studios, this was part of the sentosa resort a separate island. Me and lee had never been to a universal before so we were so excited, chris and judy have been to the one in Florida and they thought this one was better! We all had a fantastic day, the park was unbelievable. The best thing was as it was a weekday and not school holidays the park was virtually empty. The longest we had to queue for a ride was about 15 minutes! The park was split into sections, as we arrived we walked through Hollywood street, me and lee couldn't believe how realistic and well made it was. The first stop was Madagascar, me, chris and judy went running off to dance and get pictures with all the characters, lee was a bit reluctant at first but by the end of the day he was just as enthusiastic as us!
The next section was far far away, lee watched his first 4d showing of shrek, the graphics are phenomenal. You can see why the children and adults have so much fun here. Along the way, we saw loads of characters from all different movies, we got lots of pictures for you to look at. The boys loved the Jurassic park section, the dinosaurs looked real! We went on some water rapids, we wasn't worried about getting too wet as nobody came off soaked. Well we were wrong. Me and lee sat is the worst place and got absolutely drenched, chris and judy couldn't stop laughing. Just our luck!
Our favourite rides were mummy and the transformers. The transformer ride was a stimulator roller coaster in 4D something we have never been on before. It really felt like we were part of the transformers, sliding down buildings and crashing into offices. It is truly amazing how they make it! Lee was so happy when the autobots were walking around the park, we felt sorry for the person inside they must have been baking!
The New York section was so good and we loved watching all the shows. We watched lights camera action made by Steven Spielberg. This was a fifteen minute show recreating a hurricane going through New York. It gave us such an insight how they create a scene in a movie and bring it to life. Our next stop was to water world, this was a stunt show and the main attraction for lee. We rushed round to get to the half three showing and there was already a crowd of people. As they let the rope down everyone started running to the final queue to get good seats. We didn't expect this but all jumped over the railing to take a short cut and sprinted to the end. We all finished about ten people from the front and couldn't stop laughing. To our disappointed due to technical difficulties the show was cancelled lee was absolutely gutted, we were told to come back at half five hoping the problem would be fixed.
So we were there nice and early and ready to run, fortunately the show was going ahead which we were all thrilled about. As the rope dropped we all ran as fast as we could ,lee flew off like usian bolt hoping over the railings like a horse and he was first to get there beating everyone the competitive side came out of him. It was so funny we got great seats only to realise it wasn't even half full so we ran twice for nothing!! The show was worth the wait, it was really good lee loved watched the stunts and two jet skis in the water going really fast and jumping were definitely the highlight of his day. Before it started there were some actors with buckets of water going around the audience, and yes you guessed it of all the people, he came to lee and absolutely soaked him. It was hilarious! We are so happy we went to universal we had such a great day and it gave us an insight into what Florida is like. We really hope we will be able to visits some parks when we reach America.
Our final day we went to the cinema to watch wolf on Wall Street, lee has been dying to see it for weeks now. It was nice to go to the cinema as we haven't been in so long and we all really enjoyed the film. That night we went down to Mariana bay to see the city all lit up. Our first stop was the famous marina gardens, they have created trees like in avatar, and we watched a magical light show to music, where the trees came alive. After we went to the front of the marina sands and watched an fountain show with music. They projected images onto the water, it was truly amazing!
Singapore has been amazing, it has definitely been mine and lee's favourite city. The views are unbelievable and it is the cleanest place I have ever been in my life. The whole time I have been here I have not seen one piece of rubbish or chewing gum on the floor. The underground system is spotless, I opened a can of drink on the tube and got told off as you are not allowed to eat or drink in any public places, which explains why it is so clean. We really feel like we have managed to see the majority of the city in our short time here and have loved every second.
So our time in Asia is over, we fly tonight at 22.25 and land in Melbourne tomorrow morning, where we will stay for a week. We are so excited to see what the next chapter of our adventure holds.
Will update soon from oz,
Lots of love, missing everyone lots xxx
