As you can see we are both adrenaline junkies now, from the extreme jet ski to a 14,000 ft sky dive!!
We have been in mission beach for two nights and staying at lovely hostel called absolute. There isn't too much to do here, apart from rainforest walks and the main attraction why everyone stops here is the sky dive! Here is the highest sky dive in Australia with views of the rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef and you are guaranteed a beach landing.
Me and lee hadn't booked a sky dive or even planned to do one, however after speaking to everyone we thought it was a once in a life time opportunity which we simply couldn't miss. We enquired at our hostel and before we knew it we were booked on and leaving in half an hour before we could even think about it.
After much debating (especially me as I am the most decisive person ever) we decided to upgrade our video and photo package so someone jumps with us to get better shots. We thought we will never be doing this again so we may as well go the full works and get some amazing photos and a DVD to capture it and to share with everyone. Lee in particular couldn't stop looking at all the photos around and was so excited to get one of him jumping in the air.
We were the last jump of the day so as we waited and watched the parachutes falling and others DVD footage, the nerves began to set in! Then it was our turn, we had our safety briefing then were all buckled up and were in the car to the aeroplane. It still hadn't sunk in that we were going to jump 14,000 feet from a plane. We arrived at the run way and got all strapped in to a tiny plane, this is where it started feeling real and seriously scary. As we went up, we were told we were only half way and me and lee just looked at each other ans couldn't believe how high we already were!
Lee was white as a sheet as we got higher and higher and higher. Then all of a sudden the door opened and I was terrified as I saw the first person just drop out the plane. Next was lee and all that was going through my mind was why am I doing this! Then before I could think I was on the edge of the plane and then within a second I was free falling for one minute in the air through the clouds. It was the best feeling in the world but I can't describe it, I loved every second and once the parachute came up I got to take in the fantastic views, it truly felt like a dream like I was floating through the sky. I vowed before I left this would be my one and only but if I could I would do it again without a thought! I am so pleased I done it and I will never ever forget it!
As I landed so sad it was over, I could see lee already with both feet on the sand, I was on such a buzz but I could tell lee hadn't had such an enjoyable experience.
I (lee) didn't have a very good experience on my first ever skydive it didn't go to plan with my video and photos the guy who was meant to be taking my photos vanished into thin air. I don't know what went wrong but he couldn't catch us up the whole way down. I was looking forward to seeing the video and photos as I didn't see him once. As expected when me and lauren watched the video it was pretty crap to say the least. The bloke who was meant to be taking pictures travelling with us was so far behind all you can see is me in the distance. Something obviously went wrong ...what I don't know but it weren't good enough. It turns out this happens once in a blue moon and I was in the minority of 0.1 percent!
Lauren had a big discussion with the manager about my video and he was no help whatsoever and said there was nothing he could do. So it put a downer on the whole experience for us and I felt I had been ripped off. We were both so gutted and were not letting this go. We wanted to see if we could get some sort of compensation for what we had paid for our dive.
In the morning Lauren called head office and they agreed the standard was not good enough and they were sincerely sorry for the poor video and imagery quality as well as customer service. They refunded me on my photo package deal and offered me to dive again at such a cheap price to make up for there mistake. I really wanted the photos as I will never be doing it again and to show everyone i actually did it so I had to go back up there for the second time.
before I knew it I was waiting to be off again on the bus to the plane. I was put with the best diver they had and and the best photographer who lauren had to take her photos. The woman called ziggy who took the photos was class as you can tell excellent at capturing the moment. This time my experience was supreme. It was a million times better, it was like a completely different experience and it couldn't of gone any smoother for them and me. So after a not so good start it turned out great and you never know I might will do another on again soon ......... I finally had the same buzz lauren did when she landed yesterday.
So in the morning we are catching the bus to our final stop cairns, which is only two hours away. We can't believe it will be our last greyhound trip and our last stop along the east coast. There is a cyclone coming near our way which is predicted a category 4 we are crossing our fingers it doesn't effect us as we want to make the most of our last few weeks in the australian sun! After cairns we need to get to brisbane to fly to fijij, we are hoping to find a cheap camper relocation and drive down as this will be a great experience and so much cheaper. Unfortunately as it is Easter (typical lauren and lee timing) there aren't many relocations available so we are hoping to get a last minute one, if not we will catch a flight (don't worry we will not be jumping out of this one) We hope you enjoy all the new entries and photos and will update soon with our LAST australia entry!
Missing you all x
