Magnetic island
Hey folks sorry for the delay in our blog but it's very pricey so when we get free internet we seem to try and get on as much as possible to our blog for you all to read about. Once we arrived at Townsville we catched the next ferry from the town to the lovely island of magnetic. It was only a 30 minute ferry to get to the island it looked lovely upon arrival. Another boat I successfully survived from getting friendly with the toilet haha.
Anyway we catched a bus from the ferry port to our nice hostel called base. It was right on the seafront and if you were lucky some of the rooms overlooked the sea. We weren't quite fortunate to get one of those but we had a lovely little room close to the bar and restaurant. We settled in and went to the bar where we got a free drink and a free meal which we were really happy about as we couldn't be bothered to cook again.
The next day we got up early as Lauren was dying to hire out one of these topless cars . Your see in the picture what I mean there so small and they actually like to call them barbie cars. A girl in our room joined us in getting the car out as she was up for it too. We got down there and had a choice of two colours one being blue and one being bright pink. Two against one I lost and we had to have a bright pink one. I looked so so cool haha (not) . We ventured off in this little mr bean car as I like to call it and travelled along the coastline right up to horseshoe bay. There was a lovely little swimming area there so we all took a dip as it was so so hot. There was some great water activities for us to do but the girls were happy to just sit in the water and talk to my disappointment. After relaxing for abit we got back into the bean car and travelled back down to the other end of the island to picinic bay. There was a really long jetty there for you to walk out on and get some good snaps. Once the temperature died down we went for a trek to a lookout over all the bays. It was an hour and half round trip to the girls delight. We were looking out for wild koalas in the Trees and big snakes but we didn't see any to our disappointment.
Once we reached our destination the views were great. We got to get up onto a building that was used in the war to gain extra height. The best bit about it apart from the views was the lovely breeze. The buildings were used in the war to store weapons and also as a lookout to see who was coming onto their island for battle. About 100 metres below us was another concrete building and that was used for a coal stash. When we got back to the car we went to the local supermarket to pick up some carrots to feed the rock wallabies. It was out on a dead end bit of road right near the water. We pulled over and once we got the carrots out there were loads of them ready to be fed. We saw some little joeys aswell which the girls loved.
It was a good day on magnetic island and we had a long drive along the coast to get back to our hostel. About a mile from our hostel a copper was waving me over from the pavement. His first words were the colour suits you (great) I was thinking. Who would of thought on this tiny island he would be doing breathalising tests. I passed in flying colours of course. We had afew drinks In the bar that night but had to be up early to get the ferry and drop the little car back.
I had to do two runs that morning as I couldn't fit all the luggage in the car surprise hey. I had fun anyway driving along in the bean car. We were gutted to be handing it back after one day we all really enjoyed it on the island. We had to get a 11 o'clock ferry back to Townsville as we were catching the greyhound for 12 to go to mission beach where we stay for three nights.
Update straight onto mission beach everyone !!!!!!
