We woke to the sound of the ocean and the sun beaming through the window. We headed down for breakfast after a quick shower and were met by a disappointing selection. We'd been spoilt and now.... We didn't know what to eat. There were tubs with 3 cereals written on it. It looked like fish flakes?! There was coffee. I got some melon and lee got a piece of cake and biscuits. As we sat down a woman, that we assumed worked there, came over with slices of cheap looking ham and cheese. This wasn't the normal cheese though this looked like the cheese we'd had in Ecuador that tasted like off milk. We try not to tard every cheese with the same brush so we sampled. We both sat quite for a second whilst we tasted away.... Verdict: no taste. This one was smoothly textured curdled milk. We have the cheese a miss and I went back up and got the dark brown muesli. Whilst lee eat ham roles.
With breakfast over we packed are bags for the day and headed down with our washing (it all needed rewashing after the 20 reais wash in Paraty) 40 reais it cost to wash!
We headed for the beach. It's more of a dock here. The sands still nice but didn't want to weave between boats in the water so we carried on walking along the shore. A little further down we bumped into the American off the last boat trip we were on. She'd booked an island hopping trip here and pointed us in the direction. As we were walking up the little street I heard a man (who sells the boat trips) saying its going to rain tomorrow. I joined in their conversation and said 'no its not. I checked the weather and it said its going to be a nice few days'. He had his phone to hand and went on a really detailed weather website and started explaining high clouds, low clouds, the swell. He was a surfer so he was planning on having the day off tomorrow to surf because the weather would be bad for boat trips. We were planning on doing a boat trip tomorrow so we booked today instead. It was 10:15 and his boat was due to leave at 10:30 so perfect timing. We were waiting at the dock when the speedboat showed up. We all jumped in and he took off around the island. The first stop was blue lagoon but there were quite a few other people here so he sped off past everyone to the next stop green lagoon. You could see parrot fish from the boat straight away. We jumped in and started snorkelling. There were some coral, little fish, a giant star fish and fish I'd never seen before. These fish blended in with the sand but if you went near them the opened their fins to look like blue wings. I saw a big pink looking jellyfish too so we steered away from that area. The next place we were took too had turtles apparently. It was a bit of a swim from the boat to the hotspot but we didn't see any. Instead we saw another starfish and loads of sea urchents. They were sneaky ones too, trying to put flowers on their heads to disguise themselves. This place had more coral and bigger fish. Next stop back to the blue lagoon. There was hardly anyone here now (just a couple of yachts with chunky looking old men sporting red speedos lying on the front decking like supermodels) other than that the rest of the view was amazing. The island that helps form the lagoon has a house on it. The palm trees leaning away from the house, towards the sea and the bright blue water with the sun beaming down onto it looked like something from a postcard. I sat at the front of the boat and chilled out whilst lee did a snorkel here. It was getting chilly on the boat. Even though the sun was shining as soon as the boat took off it went so fast it caused quite a bit of wind. The next stop was away from the island. It was a helicopter wreck. The men wanted to see this. They all jumped off and the girls stayed on. The boat driver jumped off too and guided everyone to the wreck. The story of the helicopter is.. A man, his wife and 2 friends were all in a the crash. The wife and 2 friends survived but the man went down with the helicopter however when they found the helicopter the man was nowhere to be seen. He had a death policy worth 5million reais! His wife and friends all shared the same story; the man had been trapped by his seat belt but when they found the helicopter their findings didn't match the story. They'd never found the man.
Scary story over, time for food. The sea had gone really choppy. I was at the very front holding on. It was so cool. I felt like a bond girl: a really inelegant one with arms and legs flailing around. It got worse the further out we got so i had to turn around and hold on facing the direction we were going. scrap bond girl i looked like i was riding a horse. My bum was bouncing from the seat. We were took to a restaurant on a secluded part of the island. We got a fresh roasted fish with rice. It was delightful! The food and drink for me and lee came to 100 reais. Not too bad.
The sun was setting so we thought the food part was the last of the trip but he slowly floated us around to the live island. It was the beach of controversial kisses in a 60s soap opera. He threw the throttle and we rode around the island to a little private beach. It was a mini adventure, climbing over rocks and feeling the soft pure sand. After a little wonder me and Lee got back on the boat and sat and watched the sky go from blue to pink, orange, dark blue then black. All the stars started twinkling. It was a beautiful end to a really good day. When we got back to the hostel our washing was done, the wifi was working (albeit it was only by reception and took ages to load emails or send anything). I needed the toilet when we got back to the room. i kicked my flipflops off, went in the bathroom and turned the light on. I thought i saw something move, looked down and saw o was stood on giant ants. aaahh. I ran out the bathroom, freaking out a bit, Lee went in armed with his flipflops and battered them to death. We showered then headed out to meet our boat friends.
