I woke feeling a bit run down, my nose was tickley and my head felt funny so I climbed out of bed, had a wash, pulled up a bean bag on the decking (over looking the sea) and read my book. Within no time I felt miles better so I went back to the room to get changed and tell Lee I was going for breakfast. Lee was up already so we went breakfast together. The breakfast was served upstairs in the bar. It was the best breakfast I've seen in ages. There was muesli, fresh fruit, fresh bread, ham, cheese, smoothies, coffee. We filled our plates and eat it all! After breakfast we chilled out on the decking. I wanted updating on the hen night and Lee upgraded his Superman cinema tickets to the gallery. The sun started piercing through the clouds so we jumped up and went on the island trek to find the hidden beach with no road to it. We were dressed in flipflops, shorts/skirt and a t'shirt. We bought some water and started the walk through the narrow streets. Before we knew it the road had turned into a path into the jungle. It went steeper and steeper, less and less like a path then it was rocks. Huge rocks at steep gradients. It was warm, we were sweating and we were wearing flip flops so climbing the rocks were getting difficult. At one point my foot slid out the sandal. Lee took his off through the rock area. There were giant ants nest throughout the trail. Lee took the lead half way because I was fed up of cobwebs hitting my face. Just as he took the lead he stood on an ants nest. I imagined a scene from my girl. 'The bee stings, they hurt. He wanted to be an acrobat' I know it wasn't bees but you never know Lee could be allergic to bull ants?!
We finally got to the top of the mountain, through the jungle and sat on the huge rock over looking the island. It was worth it! We were only half way though. Lee told me that the path was meant to be easier now, in comparison to the very vague, almost none existent one we'd just climbed - Not true!
We climbed up, down around, through arching trees, past cactus, jumping weird looking bugs, over more ants nests. Lee decided to do a boy thing and kick the ants nest as I walked past. Seriously. A girl wouldn't do that but Lee thought it was funny. I didn't! Luckily I was like a ninja, dressed in black and dodged and creatures forming an attack. We finally started descending. The jungle became less and we started seeing sand. The sand got whiter and whiter then we arrived. It was a pristine white beach with beautiful bright blue waves. We ran straight for the sea to cool off. It's the Atlantic so it's cold. It was perfect. There was a fishing boat at one end of beach and rocks at the others. We could see 2 other people on the whole beach. After a little splash in the water we climbed over the rocks onto a different beach. It was a surfers beach! We bought some water and an ice cream, sat down and watched. It wasn't sunny, there was an overcast but it was still warm. A perfect day for exploring, not the best for tanning. A girl walked past is with thong bikini bottoms on. This is Brazil!
Once we'd chilled out for a bit we headed to the bus stop. The main road is a 2 minute walk from this beach. We decided to walk back and get some food along the way. After a good walk up and down steep hills (but sticking to the main road) we found an all you can eat buffet with traditional Brazilian food. 15 reais each! After we'd eat we headed back. I wanted to have a look in the bakery and try a cake. There was a chocolate with a strawberry in the middle so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Wowza. It was chocolate on the outside with a rich caramel and the freshest strawberry in the middle. It was beautiful, a little sickly but delightful on the pallet when you need that sugar hit.
I jumped in the shower when I got back then we chilled on the decking watching the sun set, playing a bit of ping ping and updated the blog. I messages my mum and her and my dad had been walking on the beach in Wales the same time as me and Lee - the worlds connected!
We booked onto the even meal at the hostel and chilled out waiting for caipirinha time and food time.
At half 7 we went to the bar to get our free drink and bumped into a couple we'd been speaking to in the hostel. They were playing a card game called foo. We'd never heard of it before so they ran through the rules and let us play a game. After the first game the food came. It was a gorgeous salad, rice and a meat broth that had beans and sausage in. I went back for seconds! We didn't end up playing cards after that we sat around talking, telling stories. Later on in the evening they told us they were psychologists... They're from London so hopefully they put mine and Lees special-ness down to us being northern.
