Hi all
Well i think i have started to like trecking i left Lake Toba where i spent a week relaxing and doing pretty much nothing, i caught a bus to Medan and then from there another bus to Bukit Lawang. on the bus journey i met Bobby he was a guide that took people around the jungle for a few days trecking. there was one problem 1 of me and min of 3 people so i had to find 2 other people that would like to do the treckso bobby took me to a guest house used by backpackers so hopefully i could fnd more pople luckly i did there were 2 danish girls who wanted to do at treck so we alldecided to go together and go on a 3 day treck staying 2 nights in the jungle.
the next morning bright and early i packed my little backpack stored my big one in the storage room and off we went, after the first 30 mins actually thought i would die if the climbing would be that bad, fortunalty after the first 30 mins it leveled off and we saw our first wild orangutans there were 3 one it a baby and they came really close. with bobby there was another guilde and he thought it was funny to put the bananas down my back so the orangutans went after them, managed to get some good photos some already loaded on but there are a lot more to come a lot more.
after waiting around with the orangutans for 30 mins they went off and so did we the walking got better and i was actually enjoying my self then a little climb and a break then THE MINA cam. mina is an orangutan but she was brought up in someones house then donated the the sanctuary to be rehabilitated, now she lived in the wild but is so used to humans she follows them till they give her food she also has a 3 month old baby so even more hungry, one the other guild tried to distract her with bananas while bobby made us move fast in the other direction (if you dont give her food she bits) tyipically we had to run up hill so we were moving as fast as we could and it took about an hour to loose her. carring on we made it to camp.
we were next to a waterfall and athough it was cold it was really good to clean up. good food veg curry and chicken curry, it got dark about 7 so for the rest of the evening we all played cards and talked.
morning again and a good sleep. the day before i ripped my trousers so today haveing to ware my spare pare that arent really for trecking but will have to do. again after the first 30 mins though i was going to die again so slippery and steep, but after 2hrs climbing we make it to the top of the 700m mountain for lunch. on the way down we meet 1 group the first people since starting and the only one we see the hole treck till the last camp. that day we saw the white handed gibbon and heard lots of different birds, then the heavens opened and we got soaked the water was running off my trousers and in to my shoes so walking in puddles also my glasses steemed up so couldnt see anything so i had to take them off and carefully climb down the muddy steep slippery almost vertical mountain. at last at the bottom then we are told we have to cross the river usually you can walk over but because of the rain to high so we have rubber tubes and the guides swim us across the current so strong we end up 50 meters down streem by the time we have crossed. people at theis camp 2 australiand 2 irish girls and a french couple. the french couple didnt talk but the rest of us all got on, more card games and tricks that the guides now and bed, it rained all night but nice and walm under the tarpaling tentish thing.
to get back to town we are going to raft down the river so in the morning after breakfast we pack up and set off good rapids not to strong but strong enought that i was clean but the end of it.
relaxing for the rest of the day and the next day i go to the feeding platform where the orangutangs that have just been released in to the wild can get soem food, only banana and milk as boring so the orangutans will find better food for them selves only 1 orangutan turned up but when we walked down to the bottom there were 3 mum an 2 babies one a few years old the other a year old all so cute. feel quite sad to be leaving this place bobby was and excelent guide and the place is so pretty and beautiful but Singapore her i come.
speak to you soon lots of love leanne
