Made it to safari park in one piece with the company of new buddies! (Candice, Natalie and Thu) Bit of a rocky start but a few days in and getting into the swing of things! Spent first few days on rescue team, so that involves a lot of mildly/highly psychotic monkeys trying to grab you through the fencing. Also got a few rabbits, three macaws, two Binturangs, a few deer and Digs the Cassawary. Cleaning and feeding in the morning, afternoon is trying to fix up enclosures, thinking/making new things for toys and enrichments and feeding again.
As I said some of the monkeys can be a bit grabby and go for you but it's understandable when you consider how some of them used to be kept. Chutney seems to have a split personality:one minute your scratching his back next he's grabbing your arm, but I like him! Trouble is a little cutey too, but as her name suggests can cause havoc! Mr. Wendy and Sydney, the two bintarungs, are favourites of mine. Handing feeding them is slow work but they are sweet and very gentle.
Cub team is so much fun as long as you don't mind claws and teeth. Feeding and playing with the cubs is an absolute joy and although I don't agree with some of the methods at least I know the cubs are well looked after and cared for. Currently there are four leopard cubs, three lion cubs and one tiger of varying ages. They are all adorable! The leopards are a right handful as they want to climb all the time and are a lot more bitey! Came out with a few more bruises and scrapes to add to my growing collection!
Safari consist of a lot of s*** cleaning of the giraffe, zebra and ostrich variety! Not the most pleasant job but it's got to be done! Afternoon consists of feeding the lions! The big ones! Leopards, bears, giraffe, zebra, emu and deer are all in the afternoon session too.
