Feb 3rd 2010- Day Ten
Launceston
Today was a pretty chill day.We had a nice lie in and recovered from the previous night's festivities. We wandered around the main streets of Launceston looking for a nice place to grab some brunch. After we perused some of the local shops (and picked up some water shoes for my Marine Biology field course) we headed back to the hotel.
Lachie has "heaps" of family in Tassie, so he contacted his auntie who doesn't live far from our hotel and convinced her to let him borrow her car for the day. What a lovely lady! She dropped the car off for us and took the bus home! Not only did she trust Lachie with her car, but she insisted we all come over after our busy day for some dinner!
Since we had access to a car, we decided to visit the Hollybank Treetops. This is an eco-adventure canopy zipline run by Forestry Tasmania. The platforms allowed us to soar 50 meters above the ground reaching speeds of about 55km/hr.To give you a visual… basically we were strapped into full body harnesses and attached to a cable zipline throughout the treetops. There were multiple runs, with the longest one being 400m.I would have bought the pictures to give you a better visual, but I just couldn't see myself paying $10 for a photo of me wearing a harness hanging upside down from a tree!(I'm sure just about everyone reading this can picture me doing that!)The whole adventure took about 4 hours, and then we began our journey back to Launceston for dinner.
Lachie's aunt's place was beautiful. She cooked us a couple pizzas (with toppings grown from her garden), sausages, squid (which I tried!) and salad. We ate our meal in the back garden with a lovely view overlooking the town, water and paddocks. We followed up with some ice cream and cappuccinos and then made our way back to the hotel to pack up my gear ready to fly (yet again..) to Perth! Finally I can unpack ALL my luggage!
