So, in my last blog I left you all on a cliff hanger of whether I would see a rhino or not! Well, to put youall out of your misery the answer is yes. Saw loads of them in fact. Black and white rhinos. There was a very cute scene where a black and a white rhino were playing together. We also saw lions, cheetah, elephants, giraffes, zebras, loads of different types of antelope, and, on the last day we fianlly saw the leopard. We'd been hunting for it for days, and then whilst we were having a cup of coffee it just appeared on a hill on the horizon. In the end the only one of the big five we missed was the buffalo, but I think I can live with that.
So after finishing the safari it was back to Port Elizabeth, where I spent a very uneventful afternoon and evening reading my book! But it meant I was up bright and early to get the Baz Bus up to Cintsa, my first stop along the Wild Coast. Cintsa was brilliant! It's just a small town with a huge white sandy beach and a lagoon. I stayed at Buccanneers backpackers with a dorm to myself and views out over the lagoon and beach. Unfortunately I only had one night there to chill out and stroll along the beach.
The next day it was back on the Bax Bus for the lengthy ride up to Durban. There's little to say about Durban other than my hostel was horrible. If you're ever in Durban don't stay at Banana Backpackers. Just don't! So the second the bus arrived the next morning I was on it to head up to the Northern Drakensburgs (thankyou Laura and Henry for telling me about Amphitheatre hostel there!). I arrived that afternoon in the pouring rain. I nearly gave it up and went straight through to Jo'burg, but I was very glad I didn't. The next day the could had mostly lifted to reveal a stunning mountain range. That day we took a trip to Lesotho to see some roack art, drink the local brew, and chat to a local healer. The next day the weather was even better for a hike up to the top of the amphitheatre and to see the Tugela falls (2nd highest in the world).
Then it was time for my fianl Baz Bus leg up to Jo'burg. I'm more favourable about Jo'burg than Durban, but I can't say it's a place I'd go back to. A guide from the hostel tooks us for a tour about town, which just seeemed to confirm the place has little to offer! So i was happy to be on my way to the airport to head off for Perth. Until I got to the airport that is! Suffice it to say the 3 and a half hours I'd give myself before the flight was only just enough by a whisker. It's an experience I never want to repeat! By the time I boarded the plane I was in an extremely bad mood. It was improved however by the air hostess giving me 5 gin and tonics. What service!
So now I'm in Perth. And it's incredibly hot. Melting the pavement to the souls of your feet hot. I quite like it! Not only that but my hostel seems to be in the asian food quarter, so really, I couldn't be happier. I have 3 nights booked here to see the sights. After that, who knows!
