My first Asian entry! How exciting for you all! :-) When I left Queenstown the weather had started to turn decidedly cold and every day you could see the snow line getting lower on the trees. In fact my flight out of Queenstown was delayed because the could was so thick and low. This meant that I made my connecting flight to Singapore by the skin of my teeth after running what felt like the lenght of Sydney airport between the gates. Things perked up after that though. I was asked to swap seats with someone so that they could sit next to their partner and as a thank you the crew kept me and the people next to me supplied with champagne throughout the flight. It's one of the best flights I've ever had!
I arrived late in Singapore so just went straight to my hostel in Little India and crashed out. Next morning I got chatting to 2 Aussies over breakfast and we decided to all go off exploring together. First stop was Bugis Market where they sell EVERYTHING. Treated myself to a $5 watch as my old one had given up. Remarkably it's still going! From there we went to China town and came across a newly built Buddhist temple. The thing was huge spread out over 5 floors. There was also a weddign going on at the time we were there which was really interesting to watch a bit of. By this time we'd been on our feet for most of the day so it was definitely Tiger Beer time. A few of those later and I took the guys to Lau Pa Sat food hall to experience the amazing 'executive curry' I'd had there a few years ago. It was still there and still just as good as I remembered it.
Next day I just wandered aroudn the city rather aimlessly. Walked through the Raffles Hotel complex and had a peak in at the Long Bar, but my sandals and thai pants didn't seem quite meet the dress standard! Then walked on through Clarke Quay and ended up down at Harbour Front having decided to go to Sentosa. I got completely lost in the shopping amll there trying to get to the monorail and spent about an hour going up and down escalators. But I did come across a cinema showing the new Indiana Jones so just decided to get myself a ticket for the evening. When I did finally make it to Sentosa I wasn't sure why I'd bothered. I'd been before when I was first in Singapore and had a great time, but it's not so much fun by yourself and also very expensive. But I had a walk down the quirky Merlion Walk and then went to the most southern point in continental Asia before relaxing with the most expensive Tiger Beer on the planet. I then went back to the mainland and saw Indiana Jones which was without doubt the highlight of the day.
Tomorrow I head off into Malaysia and to Borneo.
