When we got to Singapore it was very late. We had nowhere to stay and were bloomin starvin'! We had a little stroll from our bus stop and headed to a booming district called Little India. It was like India... but smaller. There were hundreds of people rushing round still shopping and eating curries in Mustapha's Muslim Market at 11pm and later. We're sure we saw the number 6 bus pass by at some point. We managed to get through the hawds of people and find a couple of hostels. The one we settled in was an ace one called Footprints! It was really modern and had a lot of English and other Western people staying. There was a small restaurant where, IF we got up early enough, we'd get our free breakfast! It meant us staying in a dorm, which we were yet to do on our trip so far, but we fancied the change of experience anyway so we went for it. We left our bags downstairs so to not disturb the sleeping people in our room too much whilst we went to Ladypool Rd for some dinner. The smell was just too appealling and we couldn't help ourselves but go and find the nearest curry house and grab a balti! It was amazing!! We found a new love called Roti Bread, which was like naan bread but softer, tastier and better! So if you see it in England then definately try it as it will make your taste buds tingle like jingle bells jingle. We headed back to our hostel and up to our dorm. To our surprise everybody was still awake. There was a fat man watching his laptop very closely, another bloke on his phone and a pissed-as-a-fart Leeds lass with one arm! We clambered onto our beds, both on top bunks opposite each other. When the two fellas had finally stopped on their respective electronic products and the one-armed pissed head had stopped dribbling, lights went out and we fell asleep... only to be awoken two hours later by Foghorn Leghorn's snoring below!! My God, we've never heard such noise come out of someone's nose!! He sounded like an animal! It kept going and going and somehow got louder and louder!! Then suddenly the girl with one arm pipes up and starts snoring too which set Lea off giggling which led to her in hysterics for the majority of the night! We know we're not perfect and all that but we know that neither of us snore and if we did we would certainly not sleep in a dorm full of people knowing that we were gonna keep people up all night. We managed to laugh about it-until we spoke to him the next day and found out he'd be there for the foreseeable future!
Our first proper day in Singapore was great. We used the tube, saw some sights, did some shopping and loitered.
Our second day was great. We used the tube, saw some sights, did some shopping and did a night safari.
To be honest, we're so far behind with these blogs that we need to speed up-especially now that we're in New Zealand and the internet here is expensive! Trust us, Singapore was quality and we'd definately go back as we only had a few nights to enjoy it. We imagined it to be very much like Los Angeles will be-very built up but prestine. The tube service is smashing and you can't eat on the train or at the station (we got a rollocking for opening a mars bar). The Night Safari was the highlight for us both. It was a Safari... at night. It had lions, tigers, deer, elephants and fish, plus loads more. We went on a train around the place and took photos even though you weren't supposed to! Again, we got told off. There was a cool animal show half way through where we saw snakes, hyenias and meercats and stuff. Meercats are fun! They were picking up litter and putting it in the correct bins!
So, it was on to the sun, sea and sand of Bali from here. A slinky little 3 hour journey with our current favourite airline, Singapore Airlines. Before we got on the flight we bought a cool little DVD player for 50 quid that we saw as an investment, especially for our days shacked up in our campervan in New Zealand!
