Arrived in Cooktown just in time for the local Saturday morning markets. Lots of local produce, handiwork and food on display and people cruising around. There are a number of handsome old buildings on the main road, one nice one that is the heritage listed Westpac Bank is up for sale. There is also a big monument to Captain Cook commemorating this landing at the site. The town itself has a very nice relaxed feel about it. We visited the snake centre in the botanic gardens and then walked up the hill through lovely rainforest. We actually drove to the top of the big hill to take the attached photograph over the town and Endevour River.
