Law & Stu's Honeymoon Adventure
What can you get for $2.50 in Thailand????
Arrived in Chiang Mai at 2pm and were greeted by a lovely guy who drove us to our apartment "Nice Place Guest House", we checked in and were pleasantly surprised at the condition of our $2.50 room............. it was big, clean and comfy and even came with its own bathroom! After checking in we went for a wounder round the city and decided to have a Thai foot massage which was the best ever and only cost two quid... what a bargain. Next day we were picked up at 9am for our jungle trek along with 10 other travellers. We drove first to a market to get food for the evening then off for an elephant ride which we both loved like mad. Our elephant was fab and was the mother of a little baby who followed us around for the fully 50 min trek. Needless to say we needed LOADS of bananas!!!! After the elephants we walked to a breathtaking waterfall and had a dip in there and some lunch then off for another 2 hour trek to a jungle 7 Eleven (i.e. a cool box in the middle of know where with "cold" beers and pop). then followed another 1 hour trek to a small village in the middle of the jungle. There was no electricity & no running water but the atmosphere there was fab. After dinner (Thai red curry (with tofu for Stu)), we were entertained by the local kids who sang and danced for us round a camp fire... it really was an amazing day. That night all 12 of us slept in a converted barn... well I say converted, all they had done was moved out the animals for the night and put up mossy nets! the following day we had breakfast then walked 30 mins to another waterfall.... had our shower then walked again for another 2 hours in the blistering heat! It really is HOT over here and the walking was all uphill. Needless to say I was pestering our guide to death, constantly asking "is it much further" his response was to look at his wrist with no watch on and laughingly respond "not long now"! After the walk we had lunch then took a bamboo raft down a river... it took about 50 mins and was great fun. We all got soaked to the skin by locals who seem to spent their Sunday afternoons sitting by the river side eating & drinking beer... again another fab experience. That night we got back to Chaing Mai at about 5pm and went to the Night Bizzar to pick up some bargain's.
