Today has been AMAZING!! Have been on the go non-stop. Woke up at 8:30, packed my bag and grabbed breakfast on the way to Te Papa Museum. This is New Zealand's main museum and it is OUSTANDING!! There is so much stuff in there - you could spend hours inside. I tried not to spend longer than two hours there though because I knew that i had so much to see. Grabbed a circular bus timetable which stops at all the main attractions and decided that instead of catching the bus I would walk it. This was a great idea! Got to see so much more. Walked along Courtenay Place through Lambdon Quay, past the university and towards the Government Buildings and Old St. Paul's Cathedral. Took me about 4 hours but was really worth it! Grabbed lunch on the way back to the hostel.
The architecture here is soooo cool! There are so many old buildings - full of history! Couldn't help myself - had to go into St. Paul's Cathedral as that's another one of my obsessions right up there with Castles. The Wellington Cathedral was just up from the Beehive (Govt. Building) but I didn't take a photo because there was a funeral going on. I didn't really like the look of the building though - thought it was a bit ugly.
Te Papa Museum had so many exhibits - saw lots of things about James Cook!! Kinda cool considering we're related. Ades - they had this motorbike (I took a picture) and it was controlled by six computers - thought you would like to see it. They also had a car made out of corrugated iron! There was also lots of stuff on Maori life and what all their buildings looked like.
The Victoria University is BEAUTIFUL! It's an old building with huge rugby and soccer grounds infront of it. I took a cable car up Mt. Victoria to see the view and ended up at the Botanic Gardens.
Tomorrow I'm catching the ferry to Picton and then the tranzcoastal train to Christchurch! Early start! Shuttle picks me up at 7am!!
