Roatan Island
Ahhh true paradise with a very slow Carribbean feel. We were up at 5am in Tela to get a local bus to La Ceiba to get the ferry to Roatan. We arrived on the island late morning and our accomodation was beautiful cabins behind the pool which was right next to the sea. I spent the first day by the pool and stayed there to watch the sunset. In the evening went to a bar for pre dinner drinkies and then to a sea food restaurant. On day 2 we all went on a snorkelling trip but the boat was very small and VERY unstable so everytime someone got in or out of the boat it tipped so much. Everyone got a bit fraught about it! We were glad to get dropped at West bay beach for the afternoon.
On day three I went swimming with Dolphins. It was amazing, a really cool experience. We had an encounter session and then put on fins and mask and swam with them. I played a game of fetch with them with sea grass as they like it and bring it back to you in their mouths. I was surrounded by about 5 at one point and one pushed me up when i wasnt paying attention to it with the grass! was a little scary. We got photos on CD and there is one of the dolphin kissing me!!! Nice!   Â
We were up mega early again on friday to leave the island and had a full travel day to Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. Only there one night as a stop off. Not the safest place to stay as they don't really welcome tourists but dont mind people working there. Again an early wake up yesterday and a full day of travel by bus. We crossed the border into Nicaragua and had 8 hour journey then an extra hour in a collectivo bus into Granada. We arrived at the collectivo stop and people were gathering so we formed a buddy system to make sure everyone got a seat. One person sorted the bags onto the roof and the other saved seats. Loads of people were queue jumping and one of the girls on tour was bitten by a big fat mama who jumped the queue so she blocked her and got bitten on the arm. The mini bus was totally packed full of people. It was such a sweat box. We arrived at 6.30 yesterday evening and were all zonked. Some people still went out for dinner but i went for a walk to stretch my legs and then had take away pizza in the courtyeard of our hotel.
Today i had a sleep in til 9am. Just been pottering today. Internetting, reading my book etc and tomorrow i will ptter about again. Might walk down to the lake tomorrow if its not too hot. Really looking forward to this evening as we are going to a restaurant where street kids learn to cook. I went to one in Cambodia and it was lovely so hopefully tonight will be too. Â Â
Hope you're all well x    Â
