Yesterday we got the bus to Bangkok ready to head to Koh Chang for some chilled island time before songkran.
We got a tuk tuk to the bus station and left on time at 8.45. It was quite a nice bus and even included snacks for the journey and a free meal at our rest stop!
We made pretty good time and arrived on the outskirts of Bangkok around the time we were meant to. However, the traffic meant it took another hour to get to the bus station. When we got off we decided against the 500baht tuk tuk and instead queued for a metered taxi. It was quite a long queue but moved pretty quick so it wasn't long before we were again stuck in traffic which meant the 10km journey took 45 minutes!
Finally we arrived on Khao San Road and made our way to chart bar, where we had booked for the one night. It wasn't the nicest room we have had and was so hot without air con! However, it was enough for the one night we needed.
We went straight to the travel office downstairs and booked our bus and ferry for tomorrow before heading out for a few drinks and some food.
We were up early ready to be met at 7.45 this morning. Instead of a mini bus as we expected we were walked about five minutes out of Khao San to a massive VIP bus. This meant it was a pretty comfortable journey, we even had a film on the big TV to start with! There was either a problem with the driver or the bus because pulling away every time we stopped seemed nearly impossible, making the journey a bit longer. It was just gone 3 when we arrived at the ferry port. We got our tickets and also managed to get our return tickets for cheap by booking them then.
We got a ride down to the ferry and sat and waited for it to leave at 4. It was quite an old and slow boat, which took nearly an hour to get to the island where we crammed into the back of a truck and headed to lonely beach. We weren't entirely sure where the place we booked was and neither was the driver so we got off at the central point and luckily were only a short walk away.
When we arrived the owner was lovely, getting us cold drinks and giving us advice on where to go and eat! He showed us out to our really cute little bungalow which is perfect for our chilled few days away.
We headed out for food and had a pretty early one as we were both pretty knackered from two full on travel days!
