It's been a while since an update, don't even remember when the last one was.. London I think.. So I will pick up from Paris. We took the train from London, arrived some time around lunch. Time for our first major language barrier.
Notre Dame Cathedral was our first stop. For a church it's pretty cool. Naturally, Laura and I felt right at home, being the huge religious nuts that we are *cough*cough* We considered climbing to the top but there were so many stairs and it was so very hot and we were so very tired. *excuses*
The next day we went to the Arc de Triomphe. This time we did climb the 284 step spiral staircase to the top. Quite a dizzying climb, but the view was spectacular.
We then walked down Champs Elysées, one of Paris' most famous shopping streets. Simply walking past some of those stores made us feel very poor, though we couldn't walk past without going inside a Loui Vuitton store, where the only thing you get for free there is looks of disgust from the workers when you walk in wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
We then made our way to the Eiffel Tower where we got to wait in line for two hours so we could go to the top. As can be expected, we opted out of climbing the 1665 steps and took the lift instead. The view from the top was amazing and really puts into perspective how small Adelaide realy is.
Sadly, that was our only full day in Paris, we easily could have stayed a few extra days, but we were off to Annecy instead.
Annecy is a small town in France, near the Switzerland border. We were staying with a friend of Lauras Dad, Neville and his wife Chantelle. They were pretty cool people. The city is situated near a huge lake and mountain range which is a pretty popular skiing spot in the winter months.
Next stop is Italy, where I am now. I started writing this post a couple of days ago, so it just keeps getting longer... I will talk about my incident on a separate post.
First day in Italy we did absolutely nothing. We had a 6am flight so had to get up about 4am, by the time we arrived at our hotel we couldn't be bothered doing anything.
We checked out the Colosseum the following day, got nice and sun burnt too. Has been rather hot here. Afterwards, we hopped back on our bus and went to the Vatican City for a quick look and did a little shopping. Back at the hotel, Laura jumped online and got us tickets to see the Popes morning service on Wednesday. Yes, we really are going to the Popes service. Though we reckon we are going straight to hell... Check out this site and you might get an idea of what we are planning : http://juliamorris.com.au/jmofest/
The next day... Went to Trevi Fountain... Looks really cool, but not gonna be a good memory spot... On to the next post for an explanation..
