I was slighty disappointed when we arrived into Nha Trang as still the weather hadn't broken in and although it was warmer than the places I had been further north it was still overcast and grey. So on my first day I arrived into the city with the girls at 5.30am where we had to spend 5 hours sleeping in the common room and waiting for our beds to become free, its crap when your soo tired and all you want to do is lie on a comfy mattress and slowly drop your head onto the fluffy pillow - ah bliss. But no we were sat on the worlds most uncomfortable rock solid couch with Hannah asleep on the floor and me doing the nodding dog impression whilst trying to watch re runs of Glee - I couldn't have been happier when beds were allocation and comfy sleep could be had.All we did that day was lie in bed, its really kind of nice some times to do sweet FA with some funny friends in our PJ's in the middle of the day. That evening we went for some Pho and then the girls headed to bed and I decided to go out with a few people I had met in Hoian a couple of days before. As I said good night to the girls I promised them I would just have one free drink at happy hour and then head to bed, then I decided one game of ring of fire would be ok and then I should probably hit the sack, in the end I played ring of fire with Lewis and his mates - watched as they lost at pool, drank one too many drinks, hunted for a club which turned out to be closed and then after a mini pub crawl headed to bed at the reasonable time of 2am only 4 hours late which I thought was impressive.
So the following day was a little more productive, we all got up in time for breakfast and met Erika at reception as she had just arrived from Hoian and after getting ready it was time for lunch in a lovely restaurant by the beach.I decided that although the weather wasn't great it was windy but warm and there fore we should all go on the beach and look at the big waves.Obviously we weren't gonna jump in but we could jump in front of the waves which took some 10 attempts with my camera timer to get right by which point one of the beach sellers had decided to join in and started jumping on the count of 3 along with us?
Following this was the main event of the day - the mud baths, now I have never been to a mud bath and so wasn't really sure what to expect, it turns out a mud bath is quite literally a big bath tub filled with mud that you sit in, might sound gross but I loved it.The whole afternoon only cost us 2.50 pounds and it was like going to a spa in the fact that it was a spa! We got changed into our swim suits and headed for the mud baths, after a hot mineral shower we jumped into a tub and the mud tap was turned on, oh it was so much fun they gave us big pots to fill up with mud and poor over each other, we had a mud fight and then eventually picked Hannah as the mud queen and completely submerged her in it. After our 20 minute mud bath we had another hot mineral shower and then headed to the Jacuzzi, but before we could get in they made us go through a water jet walkway which is basically like going through a car wash but without the big brushy things.I walked through like I was walking in the dark, my eyes squinting against the water spray and my arms out in front of me to guide the way I think I resembled that big bloke with the bolts in his neck from the Adams family. The Jacuzzi was lovely, me and the girls all shared a big tub and relaxed in the hot water, the girls meaning me, Amber and Erika as Hannah was a little bit distracted.Instead of lieing in the water listening to the birds and enjoying the relaxing atmosphere Hannah became obsessed with a coconut ladel we had been given to poor hot water over our heads, she basically sat there for 20 minutes saying how cool it was and listing off all of the ladels possible uses from using it as a soup spoon to creating hideous sounding music with it - I have never seen anyone so quickly fall in love with a kitchen utensil but Hannah did and we were all shocked later after our dip in the hot pools and massage under the waterfall when she passed the gift shop where the utensil could be purchased as a souvenier and she walked away with out one of her own? Now that's budget control for you, however I kind of wish I had bought it for her because she is still upset that she didn't buy one and keeps reminiscing of the time she spent with the ladel of her dreams.
When we got back we got changed, had dinner in the Indian over the road from our hostel and then met some of the girl's mates at our hostel bar for drinks. As happy hour made its mark we all played ring of fire and then headed to a beach bar named the Sailing Club for some dancing. The sailing club is beautiful, its clean sophisticated with good music and excellent service, we all walked in, saw the bar and knew we would have a good night.Upon arriving a slightly older fellow named peter began talking to Amber, he offered to buy a round and everyone said yes and headed to find a table on the patio overlooking the beach.Peter came over followed by a waiter carrying a very expensive looking bottle of Champaign, it seems Amber had lured over the owner of the bar and this would be the start of the cheapest yet most amazing night! The night had begun with VIP service and unlimited free drinks, Pete although pervy did his best to ensure we all had a great night by introducing us to the DJ and saying we could request whatever we wanted, and told us nothing on the menu was too expensive.I haven't had treatment like that in a long time and it made for such a great night, we all danced our socks off whilst sipping tasty cocktails on a lovely beach, in the hottest bar in town - it was packed and we were VIP's!
If you have ever been given an open bar you will know that when you have choices you tend not to stick to the same old boring drink - no when its free you experiment with new things, because why not? If you don't like it you can order something else right? Mixing drinks = a very drunk group of girls.Amber ended up drinking a hell of a lot of Jam Jars (the Vietnamese version of a bucket)which led to her again dancing with her eyes closed, almost falling asleep in the bar and then walking home in complete silence as she sipped water and ate a plain baguette. My great night ended not so great when I ended up sitting on the bathroom floor for an hour reassuring Erika as she threw up and panicked that if she fell asleep she might not wake up again? It was one of those evenings which wasn't planned but turned out great - we all had fun and apart from the last hour or so I couldn't have asked for a better evening.I must say thank you to Amber for dancing with Pervy Pete and ensuring the free drinks flowed, you took one for the team girl and we all appreciated it J
So my final day in Nha Trang I woke up feeling a little bit sketchy but got up early regardless of our major hangovers to go on a booze cruise im not sure why we didn't realize that if the boat was leaving at 8.30am it probably wasn't a very boozy cruise? It was us with a load of OAP's which might not sound like the wildest party ive attended on this trip but it was actually kind of fun and I will explain why … it all started with an impromptu sing along by the girls to a backstreet boys song which was being played over the loud speaker on the boat, I was sat looking out at the islands when I heard Hannah start singing by the time my head turned round all 3 girls were singing their hearts out to the boy band classic along with arm dancing, I couldn't stop laughing - bless them in their still semi drunken state formanaging to make a boring boat journey fun.Our first proper stop on the trip was an aquarium which to be honest would be shut down by the RSPCA immediately in England for cruelty to fish as they were in tiny tanks with no plants, you could tell they weren't impressed as the sharks literally all swam in little circles, the turles all looked even more adorably depressed than normal and I saw a puffer fish which in my hungover state im pretty sure mouthed the words "help me!" as he intensly stared directly into my eyes- weird! At one point I was looking into a tank of lovely little black fish and wondering if they ever feel sea sick? When my eyes refocused and behind the glass I saw a woman - it turned out to be Amber but the odd thing was she looked half naked? I ran around the tank and asked why the hell was she stripping off in an aquarium? Her reply was simply "my pants were on backwards" - it hadn't occurred to her that the tank she was using as a curtain to change behind was filled with water and therefore see through making her look less modest and more like one of them red light women in the brothel windows in Amsterdam. Following the peep show we hopped back onto the boat and went to a swim and snorkel point which normally I would love as you could jump off of the roof of the boat and swim with all the fish but again my hangover denied me the pleasure and instead I ended up lying on the roof as Amber (who I believe was either still drunk or loosing her marbles) danced around to no music as the other girls slept and I tried my best to remember to breathe, blink and not fall over.
After that it was time for the main event on our groovy boat, it was boy band time! That's right our boat hooked up with another boat and whilst everyone swam, snorkeled and in our case slept the captains and crews set up the band on our boat.Me and the girls headed downstairs to find all the benches had been flattened to make a big platform for everyone to sit cross legged on and a band consisting of a drummer, guitarist, tambourine ..ist? and 2 singers preparing their equipment and setting up speakers. The band turned out to be great fun as they sang Vietnamese classics which the Vietnamese tourists excitedly clapped along to as well as the odd English song for good measure, I sat right in the middle of everyone with Amber and Hannah hoping to get a good view, it turns out I had the best or possibly worst seat in the house as within a couple of songs the singers picked up on the fact we were dancing and singing along even to the Vietnamese songs and pulled me up along with the girls to dance to la Bamba. They also asked me where I was from and as soon as I said England excitedly asked me to sing the lead on a beatles song, I was a good sport and sang as best I could with the girls backing me up and we went down a storm, like Dianna Ross and the Supremes our voices blended together beautifully and the applause flowed - ok ok we were completely out of tune but luckily the mic broke so no one could really hear us but they still applauded anyway. The rest of the day was spent eating a weird cold noodle based lunch which would have probably been ok but the pig of a man next to me ate so much I barely got a chance to taste anthing! After that we were taken to a lovely island which had a beach covered in deck chairs, and due to the weather being warm yet over cast I found it the perfect climate to snooze in especially after a game of cards and a Cornetto. We got back to the hostel in good time for yet another snooze and shower before we went for dinner with some friends and then headed to the sailing club for a few lady like jam jars and a boogy and it was bed by 1am.What a lovely if not slightly random little day, im so impressed by the girls for not only getting up so early but also being enthusiastic and making the day fun all round. Nha Trang was fun, the mud baths, the Vietnamese boy band on a boat and the partying - a good all rounder of a town.
