So after our crazy 3 days on Frazer Island the sad time came when the two Grey Hound coaches pulled up and Team Goon had to part ways some going north, me, Kandi, Robyn, Scott and Claire heading south to the beach town of Noosa Heads. We all said our goodbyes and waved each other off, I felt like I was saying goodbye to family? But anyway, another sad farewell over and onto Noosa Heads.
Noosa is known as the orange county of the east coast, a little beach town built for the wealthy to hide away in warmth during the winter and we could tell as soon as the bus drove through the suburbs.I mean you know it's posh when the houses have a driveway for cars on one side and then a little river drive way leading to the bottom of the garden for the speed boats and yacht. The houses weren't necessary huge but they were all beautiful and painted in creams and whites reminding of the types of families that had been in the Sheraton when I had stayed there with Kim in Thailand, it was all so crisp and clean I felt filthy when I got off of the bus with my back pack, still with Fraser sand behind my ears.
But seen as we were recovering from Fraser and we were in such a lovely place we decided to splash out and for 2 days and 2 days only..ok 3 days only as we decided to extend we were to become - FLASHPACKERS! That's right for a whopping 30 dollars a night me, the girls and Scott were staying in the best hostel ever!
The mini bus picked us up and drove us up the hill to where the hostel was not that we could see it due to the big metal gate protecting the flashy people within. As soon as we walked in I was in heaven, the girls on reception were lovely and due to the fact that the dorms were all full they had put us into private rooms, me and Claire in a double, Robyn, Kandi and Scott in the triple. But our private rooms weren't even the best bit, nope it was the common area which got my attention. The common area was amazing, a huge open space with a modern kitchen at one end, eating area in the middle and then the piece de resistance at the other end, the tv area. Now you must understand why I loved that area so much, you see on Fraser one time we had gone round in a circle and said what we most miss from home, most people had said their mum or their pet etc. something sentimental and heart felt, when it got to my turn I knew exactly what it was that I missed and my answer couldn't have been any more heart felt, I didn't just miss this thing I yearned for the day I would be reunited with it and not for one moment did I realise I would be reunited in Noosa.
Can you guess what my answer is? Anyone who has spent a couple of months in Asia will understand it, my answer, the thing I missed the most from home was … my couch! Now I know I should say my family or something and I'm not exactly a couch potato at home anyway but after 8 months of travelling Asia, sitting on wooden chairs, sleeping in solid beds and due to my broken tail bone all I wanted in the whole wide world was to be comfy, I wanted a couch! Somewhere to watch tv or read in piece that didn't involve lying on my bunk bed or sitting on the floor. So now you understand my love of Flash packers - no wonder it keeps getting voted the best backpackers in Oz.
I spent so much time on that couch in Noosa, a big L shaped 15 seater with a massive widescreen infront it was perfect. And on the days when it drizzled and Scott was ill my little group snuggled up and watched DVDs as well as almost every episode of Faulty Towers. On all you can eat pizza night we were joined by the staff and some new comers and all sat their together watching Grease and The 40 Year Old virgin whilst munching away - the perfect break after the craziness of Frazer.
I did do some sightseeing in Noosa too, it wasn't all spent sat on my arse. One day we all got up ate breakfast and then prepared for a little walk, one of the staff had told us there was a beautiful costal walk which took us to 3 of the best beaches and gave some amazing views and so after 2 days of laziness we decided it was about time we went and did it.
The walk was beautiful, not too strenuous and provided us with some lovely views. However not everyone was enjoying it, poor Scott was sick as anything, his feeling of queasiness wasn't helped when we stumbled onto beach number 2 - the nudist beach which apparently only people over 50 use during the week.Regardless of the fact he was surrounded by bare bums and what not Scott looked like he was about to keel over and was adamant he had to rest and so we all sat down in the middle of the nudist beach feeling like the odd ones out because we were all fully dressed?! Its such a funny place to find yourself, sat enjoying the sun on a lovely little beach, its all so serene and normal until out of the sand dunes comes a naked couple (no one sun bathed on the beach they all hid themselves in the dunes), they hold hands and chat as the wonder down the beach and back enjoying the breaze around their nether regions?!
The short walk which took us a couple of hours was lovely, I enjoyed it a lot especially because at the end of the route a little treat sat waiting.Massimo's is an ice cream shop which had been recommended by Kandi's friend, it served authentic Italian ice cream but in unusual flavours - my type of joint J
So as Scott sat with his head between his legs, me and the girls ate Forerro Roche, lychee and Caramac flavoured ice cream yum yum yum.
Noosa was a lovely break after Fraser, after not showering for 3 days, sleeping outside under some plastic and drinking a lot we speak 3 days in clean and lovely surroundings, eating well, not drinking and getting our bodies back to normal.
I felt so much better as I boarded the bus to Brisbane, we all had said goodbye to Scott before we left but I was pretty sure I would be seeing him soon - little did I know just how many weeks of friendship with Scotty McTepid (I still think McWanker is more befitting) lay ahead.
