Kuala Lumpur - this might be a long one, I had some great times in KL and I want to tell you all everything.
So we arrived off of the bus in Kuala Lumpur and met a young girl who quickly advised us not to get a taxi but to get a tube into the China town area to find a hostel - she explained she was getting the tube as well and would walk with us to show us the way. After talking with her for 5 mins I realized her English was impeccable and it turns out she is a bright little button who is going to study her masters in English Literature in England its self next year and she couldn't be more excited about it - she went on to then explain that her father is the English Ambassador of Malaysia and that's the reason for her excellent dual language skills. You really do meet the most random and interesting people when your travelling.
After saying a fond fare well to another fleeting friend we headed into the hostel area to find our selves a bed for the next few days - it wasn't difficult and before we knew it we were staying in a place painted bright green with bamboo floors and pebble lined showers - I felt like I was staying in a tropical garden. The only down side to the hostel was the size of mine and Kimberley's bedroom - it was beyond tiny, we had bunk beds which blocked part of the door way and in the end with our backpacks tucked underneath the bed we still couldn't both fit into the room at the same time unless one person was in bed lol. I like the room though, it felt like our own little den where no one could find us, plus it had a beautiful flower fairy light thing climbing up the walls which shined gold light on the room and made it really relaxing - and at the end of the day we were in Kuala Lumpur and therefore intended spending little time in the room.
That night we had a few beers outside our hostel with a 40yr old ozzy who turned out to be a weird sadistic control freak - this was realized when he started telling me how the only way to train a dog was to beat it with a rat and cane and if it ever even barked at him he would simply shoot it with his shot gun! I changed the subject to talk about his 2 kids who it turns out had been taken off him due to violence - both me and kim made sharp explanations that we were tired, quickly shuffled up to our room and locked the door.He had left for India by the time we woke the next day thank god and good times in KL could commence.
We started the day with some Miso soup and a trip into China town for some retail therapy, I bought some new sunglasses to replace the ones I had lost on the bus over to KL and then it was onto perfume.I was sniffing all of the fake perfumes to see if I liked one when I looked over and saw Kim sat on the stall mans seat with her head between her legs? As I went over I could see something was really wrong, she was white as a sheet with blueing lips and she was screaming my name.I panicked! 30 seconds before she had been paying for her new fragrance and now she was in need of A and E - the stall owner kept saying hospital but we were in a massive pedestrian zone that not even and ambulance was allowed through so I grabbed Kim and started jogging towards the road - before we could get there she told me to put her down as she started throwing up and the minute she was done the colour came back to her face and she was ready to carry on shopping??! I just stared at her - neither of us could work out what the hell had happened but glad that she felt perfectly fine we carried on lol - girls cant resist shopping not even for near collapse!
After shopping we jumped onto a tour bus for the afternoon and decided to go and see the green belt parks that surround the city like natures halo - in the middle of this was a lovely monument dedicated to all brave soldiers in the world, it was a fitting tribute and one Im glad I saw.I spent hours in the gardens with kim, laughing at our silly ways as we climbed trees, ate ice creams and told jokes - my side were hurting by the time we left. Next we decided to walk the few kilometers to the avary which is massive and the best part is you don't have to pay to go in to see it, instead you can walk on the road above and see the birds from a distance. At the end of the road was the biggest mosque in the city, with gold peaks and white walls it reminded me of the Taj Mahal. The final stop on our site seeing tour is the famous Petronus Towers - two towers containing some of the biggest technological moguls in the world. The towers themselves are a site to see, in the day light they look gold and they glitter in the sun, but at night these towers almost explode before your eyes into a bright white silver beacon which you can see them from almost every point in the city - in this way they reminded me of the northern star as I, like many others, used them to find my barings when I was unsure of my location or direction.Kimberley especially fell in love with these towers and we sat beside the fountain at the bottom for quite a while enjoying the company of the awesome twin buildings.
But we couldn't stay too long as there was a night ahead of us and as we were in such a cool city we had to make the most of it - first stop was hardrock for a cocktail, next stop the hostel to have a quick shower after a hot and sticky day and then onto the bars.
I had such a great night, it started with just me and Kimberley in a Irish bar named the Green Man which played nothing but hard core rock - random. It ended with Me, Kimberley and a group of Ozzys / Swedish guys all dancing and singing in a bar that seemed to play nothing but Neyo and Abba and provided us with the biggest cocktails I have ever attempted to drink - they were brought to us in fish bowls on legs and contained about a bottle of booze each haha, needless to say our evening was a jolly one with fun people.
Kuala lumpur was one of my favourite cities - it offered everything from good shopping, massive parks, culture, history and a fab night out - what more can a girl want?!
