Today was pretty uneventful as it mainly consisted of a ten hour bus journey from Melbourne to Canberra!
We left the apartment just after 6am and 2 hours sleep - today was not going to be fun! Our bus left at 7:15am and we slept for most of the morning, only waking up when the driver interrupted us to give us information or instructions…which he liked to do a lot! He seemed to love the sound of his own voice and explained to us in great detail how to use the air conditioning, where the toilet was, how to use the footrest and seat recliner, where to put our rubbish, how often we'd be stopping - the list goes on, and on, and on! We had problems with the radiator on the way which meant we could only travel at 90km per hour and gave the driver another excuse to blather on, this time giving us a short course in mechanics as he explained exactly how the radiator worked - WE'VE ONLY HAD 2 HOURS SLEEP!! STOP TALKING!!
We eventually made it to Canberra and were immediately struck by its size compared to Melbourne. Only 350,000 people live here and a lot of those are politicians and students, both of whom have gone home for the Christmas holidays. After checking in, we went out for food and the streets were pretty deserted, but we found the Hog's Breath Café open and decided to eat there - good food but slow service when we'd finished!
Then it was back to the hostel for some internet time and some catching up of sleep!
