Rosa had offered to take us for a drive around the local area today, calling in at a couple of wineries and a cheese factory - it sounded good to us, especially given the weather, which was still pretty miserable with showers on and off for most of the day. When's the sun going to come out?
After breakfast, we set off to our first stop, Milawa Factory, which was a bakery, restaurant and cheese making company. We tried lots of delicious cheeses (parmesan, cheddar, brie, goat's cheese) as well as some dips. The winery was next door - quite a small place with some good wine and we bought a bottle to take back to Rosa's.
Next, we visited a mustard-making company where there were more samples to taste, including Flaming Hot Chilli Mustard - appropriately named! Our second winery was called Brown Brothers and was a much bigger operation than the first one. They had dozens of wines to choose from to taste so we just picked out a few!
We then drove for about an hour to another small town called Bright, by the Ovens River. On the way, we saw huge areas of land in the hills that had been burnt in the 2003 bushfire, which came close to Beechworth but just missed it. We had lunch at a café by the river and watched the rain pour down - again! We then had a walk around Bright before heading back to Rosa's.
Later, we were joined by Rosa's friend Bob and we had another amazing dinner cooked by Rosa and some good wine bought earlier in the day - a good night with good company and great food!
