Fijians are possibly the friendliest people on the planet!
I did think about leaving my post just there but then I thought that doesn't do them justice.
Here's why I think they're so friendly:
- At the airport I was met by a greeter who called me by my name, a guy who gave me a pottery lei then called me by my name and then I went into the reservations centre and they called me by my name again and asked how my day was etc and they genuinely wanted to know!
- I then met my driver Ravin who invited me to dinner at this house (I sadly didn't go as I didn't have a car, but he meant it) and when I told him I wasn't getting a car he took me to the hindu temple so I could take photos
- Everyone smiles at you as you pass them and greets you with the phrase BULA and it is said with gusto
- Maybe one in three Fijians you meet (granted I am in a resort) asks your name, how your day is going, if there's anything they can do etc
It's safe to say I've had a fab time here.
I do feel bad that I've not ventured from the resort but it gives me something to come back to do.
For those who've been on holiday with me before this won't be a surprise but the pool has been my best friend here and I've floated for many hours. It's been bliss and a great antidote to the almost 400 kms I drove in New Zealand.
Next stop Hong Kong and I'm getting a partner in crime in the guise of Catherine Edwards. Plus I'm meeting up with Andy K - excuse me if there are no blogs from there.
It's weird to think I'll be home in just over a week - wow 2 months have gone so quickly. I'll be looking forward to catching up with everyone and their news ;) so be ready to spill what you've been doing.
The sun is setting so I'm off to have a beer and take some pics, ooh and there's a wedding in the resort so I'm off to gawk and try and score some cake!
