Today we got up early as the plan was to go to a temple on hired bikes to do a meditation course. The smoothie place we have been going to a lot serves egg benedict so I wanted to go there and try it for breakfast but it wasn't open so we went to Starbucks. It's outrageous to think we spent more on breakfast than our accommodation last night!
The bikes we rented were cheaper than the one the other day, however they were a lot more unstable and squeaky! We set off cycling but Alice was suffering because of lack of sleep (she was conscious that we were in a dorm and was kept up by the prospect of people coming in and waking her up)and felt wobbly and unsafe on the roads so we went back. On the way, whilst we were pushing our bikes, I saw Rosie from Hull and then Nat ran out- they'd just arrived from Bangkok and were having breakfast. She'd literally moments before just replied to my Facebook message about meeting up later.
I went to the train station to see if we could get any sleeper seats on the Bangkok-Chumpon overnight train but there were only 3rd class seats so we are going to hold out until we get there to book a bus.
An American from our hostel, called Alan, wanted to get a lens for his camera and he seemed like a good person to help Alice look at new cameras, so after a lunch at the smoothie garden (I got my eggs benedict and a peanut butter, milk and cornflake smoothies) we went to a camera shop.
We had a beer with Nat and her friends, and then went to the Elvis bar for dinner. There were quite a few problems with our order, but the worst was them giving Alice chicken in her 'veggie' quesadillas. Some of our margaritas were really salty. We found it funny that on the board outside it said 'check out our extensive vegetarian menu'. They had karaoke on and they were all fitting in well with the Thai culture-not being able to sing the songs very well. A man who we think owned the pub and who had a bald head with a long section at the back kept in hairbands did a song and walked out the bar to rock out to all the oncoming traffic!
We went to the cluster of pubs we went to for New Year's Eve and had a few cocktails.
