The bad snorer was at it again but also came in at about 5 and had a shower, and I couldn't get back to sleep so it was easy enough to get up early to try and fit in depositing our bags at the Greyhound station, a trip to Venice beach and the TV show we had tickets for. However, the first bus we needed to get didn't seem to be appearing an so we got on a less direct bus and, despite leaving at about 8, we didn't get to the station until about 10/ half past. We stored our luggage, but when we collected our tickets, the machine wanted us to put our bags on the scales, so we went back to get them but luckily the guy at the baggage desk was able to print them out for us, without weighing our bags.
By the time we were even approaching Venice beach, we would have only had about an hour to spend there before having to trek back on the bus to town to go to the show, so we forgot that idea. A guy complimented me on my trainers, and then took us to his cafe he worked at and gave us a free drink each as Alice wanted a caffeine hit and he said they had twice the amount of caffeine in as coffee (it was some sort of Ecuadorian Amazon mate). He also got some of the rosemary and polenta cake. Whilst drinking and eating those, a German guy who was working at the cafe (on his laptop because he owns his own database business) came and talked to us and when he wanted some pizza, we went with him as he said it was voted as LA's best in the LA times. A slice was massive given it was only $3 and we ate it in the back garden before heading to the pharmacy and then parting ways.
We headed back to the beach front and rented some roller blades. It turns out blading in sand is not a good idea- Alice fell over in it. Stopping is also harder than I thought and I should have probably asked how to before leaving the shop! Some guy said to Alice 'maybe you should put some sun block on next time' even though she wasn't that red, but we thought it'd maybe be good to stay out the sun for a bit, and so I wanted to go to T-Mobile. I got a cheapy with a month pay as you go contract thing, and then also got an iPhone as now I'm used to travelling with one, it's so convenient, and I can use it as an mp3 player as well.
We headed back to the beach, and tried to find a beachfront cafe that had Wi-Fi. I had an unlimited refill of various iced teas, so I tried iced green tea flavoured with something, and iced black tea which was flavoured with something else. When we'd finished, we sat on the beach for a while, until heading back on the bus.
When we got Downtown, we really needed a wee, and wanted to get something to eat, so we rushed into a sushi shop and Alice gabbled "i'mreallysorrywe'regoingtobuysomethingbutcanIuseyourtoiletfirst?" The guy gave us some free miso soup, and a slice of watermelon each, and we were talking to him about how different sushi is in USA and England to real sushi, like fermented fish eggs.
When we got the bus to the greyhound station, me and Alice felt a bit intimidated, as getting there before dark didn't really happen due to the bus taking so long. Luckily we got there safely (I had forgotten the bus would be on the right side of the road to the station so we wouldn't have to wait around the traffic lights where there were some dodgy people hanging around earlier on). The station was very well equipped with good Wi-Fi, toilets, electrical sockets, water fountains, and a cafe.
North Americans could definitely take a few lessons from South Americans, as the buses weren't as comfy- no reclining seats here! It did have Wi-Fi though, but Alice couldn't send her email like she wanted because the weird (possibly drug addict) guy sat in the chair opposite me, who had asked if he could buy some socks off me earlier, wouldn't stop talking to us. He kept saying things, and when we couldn't hear what he'd said, he'd say something different. I pretended to be asleep so that I didn't have to talk to him, and then did manage a bit of real sleep, before they turned the lights on because we had arrived at one of the stops.
