We flew from Melbourne up to Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast, from there we set off towards Murgon where Lau and Fi's family have a pig farm. Murgon is about 3 hours from the coast and from Brisbane to us it felt like the outback but to them it is coastal because of the size of the country. We arrived at the farm late afternoon where we caught up with all the news and wedding plans before having a family BBQ. We had the most amazing steaks and sausages that had just arrived that day after one of their cattle had been killed so it was the freshest meat we will ever have! As it was Lau and Fi's birthday their Aunt Liz had baked them a cake which they were very excited about.
The next day we headed into Murgon to explore the town, it was a typical rural Australian town with one main street. We stopped off in a cafe and watched the world go by before returning to the farm where Liz gave us a tour. We all piled onto the Uht with the dogs and set off. They have 4,000 pigs and 100 cattle spead over 1000 acres of land. As far as you could see there was land with only a couple of houses visable. It was also very barren because of the drought that they are experiencing. That night, as more family arrived for the wedding, we had another BBQ which was brilliant. It was nice for Lau and Fi to be with most of their Australian family. The next day was the day of James (L and Fs cousin) and Kathryn's wedding. We all got up early and headed off to the Olive Grove, where the wedding was to be held, to set up the chairs. We became masters at tying bows as we had to tie the sashes onto 90 chairs!! The wedding was in a gorgeous setting and the sun was shining throughout, Kathryn looked amazing. We then set off to Kingaroy for the reception where we saw firsthand how to dance to country music, it was very impressive and great to watch. Following yet another brilliant family BBQ on the sunday we set off on the monday to Woodgate, Liz and Bills house on the coast.
It was a really relaxing couple of days here and nice place to end the Evans family visit. We relaxed on the gorgeous beach, 100 metres from our house, which was empty so we had it all to ourselves. We were also excited to see kangaroos in the garden all day, although they were wild they didn't mind human attention at all and were happy to sit and be admired. We also went up to Bundaberg , home of the famous rum, where we had an amazing meal at Spinnakers on the river. We will definately miss the good food that we have been eating while we have had visitors.
Next stop Hervey Bay so will update agian soon.
