Only 3 weeks left at work!!!! Yippeee!

Well now that Xmas and New Year (happy new year by the way!) are over my departure date seems rather nerve-rackingly near! I fly to Toronto on 1st Feb then to Mexico City on 9th Feb. I have some things planned but the rest I'm leaving open so that I can see where the wind takes me...

I've booked myself into a hostel for my first couple of nights in Toronto so that I can relax and get over the jet lag. My time in Toronto is quite limited so I've planned a few things just to ensure that I make the most of it. I will spend a day driving huskies, visit Niagara Falls and I'm going to a gig on my first night!! I can't wait for that.

I've booked myself into a hostel for the first couple of nights in Mexico City so that I can relax and get over the culture shock!! I'm taking a slight detour west from Mexico City to Morelia where I will visit the Monarch Butterfly Reserve. These little blighters fly all the way from Canada to land here in the forest and mate before flying up to the southern states of America to lay their eggs and then back up to Canada to do it all again! They settle like a giant fluttering blanket over the trees and forest floor. February is a prime time to catch them so it'll be worth going slightly off track to pay them a visit.

I have chosen the Spanish school that I will study at in Guatemala. After some research I decided that this was the best one as far as teaching quality, volunteer opportunities, level of immersion, investment in local community projects, fair pay for staff and host families and out of school activities... I have loose plans to meet up with friends en route which I'm very excited about. Nothing in stone but will be arranging rendez vous as I go...

Other than that I'll be enjoying the excitement of the unknown!
