Sunday evening was the Passover service in our building, and, for the first time we had power and lights! We were prepared to have the service by candlelight, which would have been special in its own way. Monday morning I had my appointment at the embassy for a new passport, it was quick and efficient. My application is submitted, my fee is paid, now we wait. They seemed fairly confident it would arrive by 4/21, but if not I am to make an appointment to get an emergency passport; which will be fine, but will make things more complicated when we get back to the US. Other than that, I spent a good part of the day preparing a goat and a lamb to be shared for Night To Be Much Observed. Just an FYI, freshly slaughtered meat has a smell all its own. We thought the meat would be fully butchered before we received it... it was not. Another FYI, bone shards are extremely sharp. The dinner was lovely and we all enjoyed a pleasant evening of fellowship and singing. Tuesday was the First Day of Unleavened Bread and I made banana Nutella crepes; if you've never had them, do yourself a favor and try them, super delicious. We have a new favorite restaurant! We pass it nearly everyday. It looked a bit sketchy to me, so I was hesitant to stop, but two weeks ago Michala and Brennan had no such qualms and stopped as they walked home. The food is delicious, and super inexpensive. We found out this week that they also deliver... I may never cook again. Just kidding, I love cooking, but seriously, we love this place. It's called the Old DC restaurant. It's housed in the old District Commissioners building, thus the old DC. Wednesday we had our first work party at the church building. We accomplished quite a bit, and we're down to the details in finishing the building, you know the tedious anxious part where you just want to be done already? The rest of the week was pretty quiet. I worked and tried to get some rest as both Michala and I have been either sick or on the verge of being sick for awhile. I think some of it can be attributed to the fact that we're headed into the dry season, so we haven't had rain in awhile; the air quality is quite poor between dust, exhaust fumes, and smoke from trash burning and charcoal fires. We enjoyed a good Sabbath rest, I'll have more excitement to share next week as we should hear about my passport and we're heading to Mzuzu (pronounced Mazoozoo) for the last holy day.
