We are back!! Sorry it's taken a bit to write another blog - that's what Bolivia does to you!
So what have we been doing?? After Salta we left for Bolivia & crossed the border at Villazon. It was exactly as you would imagine.. dusty, dirty & packed full of Bolivian ladies wearing bright colours, long skirts, bowler hats & 2 long plaits. It was a bit of a reality shock for us girls! And I would like to say that things picked up once we got on the bus out of there but that was definitely not the case....
We were supposed to leave at 4pm and arrive in Uyuni at 11pm. Instead we left at 5.30pm and got in at.. wait for it.. 5am the following morning! It took us over 8hrs to go 200km and all that was missing on the bus was chickens! The only good thing was that it was at night so we couldn't see the 2000m drop beside us or the Bolivian man just about sitting on our lap.
But we finally arrived, and after we saw the salt flats we realized it was all worth it. They are amazing!! Because it is wet season there was a coating of water over the salt which made for great reflections. We couldn't tell where the sky ended & earth began! By the end of the day we were coated in salt and had half an hour to shower & get on the bus out of Uyuni before Carnaval began.
