The last month...
Whistler, British Columbia
...has flown so fast!!
Canada is amazing! So beautiful. It's exactly like the photos. Even now I still can't stop staring at the mountains. Sometimes it feels like I'm in a movie. It's hard to describe, but a lot of the things I'm seeing and experiencing are things I've only ever seen in the movies. I love it!
Let me take you back to my arrival. My flight flew (pun intended). Dinner & a movie. Sleep. Breakfast & another movie. Land. I was met by my Dads Mums brother. It was hot! 29 degrees when I landed I think. Home, chat, eat and no sleep. Hello jetlag! The sun setting at 9pm and rising at 5am didn't help. The next day we went touring around Lake Coultus, Hope and a few other places. Everything is so beautiful.
We drove the next day to Vancouver where Nat (my girlfriend from Sydney who lives in Whistler) and Kane (another friend from Sydney who lives in Vancouver) met me and we went shopping and had lunch. And then I went to Whistler. I've been in love with the place since I arrived and right now I'm probably never leaving. Summer here is amazing. There is so much to do! We hit a high of 31 last week. So hot!
Day 1 of work was a public holiday so Nat and I bought lilos and went to the lake. Swimming in the lake with snow in the background is incredible.
Crankworks - a huge biking competition - was here last weekend. People come from all over the world to compete. Saturday was the Red Bull Joyride. Google it. Insane! Next Summer I'm getting a bike and getting involved.
Last weekend was also the Slow Food Cycle. Nat and I hoped on our bikes and biked 32km checking out local farms and their produce. It was a picture perfect day. 29 degrees, blue skies, no clouds. Incredible. Friday just gone a couple of locals put a big screen up at the lake and screened a Robin Williams movie when the sun set. It's amazing how friendly everyone is. The community feel is amazing. Everyone is so helpful. Even drivers are courteous. Besides them driving on the wrong side of the road, they will slow down to let you cross the road, theres no speeding or road rage. It's so completely different to anywhere I've ever been before.
Next weekend is Granfondo - a bike race from Vancouver to Whistler. It's a 1.5ish hour drive. No clue how long the bike will take. I'll be there when it ends, I don't think my legs will last biking that far. This coming weekend is another long weekend. The forecast isn't amazing so Nat and I will probably go to Bounce - a trampoline and foam pit place. if it's sunny we'll be going either hiking or back to the lake, or both. I've made a heap of friends, I can't remember who called it but yes, they're all either Kiwi or Australian haha.
Work is amazing. I'm 8am to 5/530pm Monday to Friday. Officially my job title is Reservations Supervisor but I'm the boss, in charge of the Reservations Department. I have 2 staff and so much responsibility. It's a lot of revenue management, inventory management, creating rates and packages, people management… so much to learn but I love it! I've moved into my own place. As much as I loved living on Nat's couch, it's nice to have my own place now. I am only here until November when I move again for the Winter. It's a 2 bedroom apartment a 10 minute bus ride away from work and exactly what I need! There are squirrels and chipmunks everywhere. Gorgeous little things running up trees or across the road. I haven't seen a bear yet, it'll be all over Facebook when I do though! That's all really. I can't promise I will update this blog all the time, but I will when I can. Love to everyone Amanda xo
