Honolulu, Hawaii
All the articles I've read and all the people I've spoken to about weather in Oahu during October told me that the weather would be good - that it would be a good time to go (weatherwise). So I'm not sure if I'm being punished or I have bad karma, but it started drizzling the first night I was here (yesterday). The rain didn't stop until mid morning, but clouds blanketed the sky for most of the day. There were only a few spots in the distance where I could see sun peeking through. Because of the rain, we decided to switch our days around and instead of hiking to Manoa Falls, we thought it would be best to go to Diamond Head. I started checking up the directions and I found out that the trail to Diamond Head summit is closed for a month (from Oct 20th to Nov 20th)! What the hell?! Somebody seriously hates me! Even though this was a big disappointment, we decided to not let it dampen our day any further (pun intended). We just went to lunch at Gina's BBQ and then shopped for some groceries at Foodland. I've heard that Foodland sold poke so I was excited to buy some. We got half of pound of each: ahi hawaiian poke, ahi limu poke and kim chi mussels poke. OH MY GOSH.. kim chi mussels are THE BEST!!!! How have I not had them before?!?!? Where have them been all my life? I'm really tempted to go back and get some more. After Foodland, we decided to check out Ala Moana shopping center. It was really confusing - there are like 3 levels, the bottom of which seems to be one with stores that no one really cares about and the higher levels are where the "high class" and "trendy" stores reside. We walked around and I was really not in the mood to shop, but I saw Club Monaco and since I haven't been in that store since I left Irvine, I decided, what the hell, why not?! An hour later, we came out of the store with almost $800 worth of clothes. So yea, no more shopping for me! We headed across the street to Ala Moana beach park after our shopping spree. The water was really cold at first, but once I got my full body underwater, the temperature was tolerable. I really had a good time swimming around and thank goodness we bought swimming shoes because the ground was so rocky! There was a cluster of rocks out about 100-150 meters from the shore and my curious mind made me swim out there. I found some crabs in the rocks and I wanted to take some pictures of them. My camera was on the shore so I had to go back and get it. Henry decided that he was going to go with me to the rocks, but he was scared that he wouldn't be able to make it. We made it to the rocks without that much difficulty. However, going back, Henry almost died!!!! In my attempt to save him, I got a lot of seawater in my nose and throat and it burned like crazyyyyyy! Oh well, as long as he's ok. Now he's traumatized. :( We ended out day at Jimbo Restaurant with some udon. YUMMY!
