From Tyrona we caught a bus back to Santa Marta and then to Taganga, a small fishing village just 10 minutes from Santa Marta. We both noticed and commented on how friendly and willing to help the Colombians are, making sure you are going to the right place and getting off at the right stop (although Nathan was horrified when a woman sat next to him had hairier legs than he did). We tried the hostel that Harry Potter had recommended to us which was really nice, similar to the last one with a real Caribbean feel to it with hammocks and wooden cabins. From the main beach in Taganga we caught a boat to Playa Grande, just a 2 minute ride away but a much nicer beach. It was quite small but very colourful and lively and not many tourists- it seemed to be a popular place for the locals. We met an Irish guy called Brian who we spent the rest of the day with, he was looking to invest in a hostel somewhere along the Caribbean Coast and was viewing one in Taganga. He had just sold his house back home to move here permanently! The water was lovely and warm, we relaxed here all day until the last boat back. Nathan had one word conversation with the boat driver, which went along the lines of "Manchester...Wayne Rooney...Chelsea...Frank Lampard...." to which Nathan just responded with "si si". I think their language skills were on par!
We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening wandering along the sea front, the atmosphere is lively but relaxed - we definitely feel like we are on holiday here. I had a delicious fresh orange juice made purely from 4 squeezed oranges and watched the sunset from the beach although it was quite cloudy so there wasn't much to see. An Austrian guy told us about his restaurant and he sold it well as we ended up heading there for dinner, a delicious BBQ - I had fresh marinated tuna and Nathan had a pork chop, both of which came with garlic bread which was delicious! It also came with a salad dressed with spicy mango sauce so if anything there were too many different flavours! We still managed to find room for a warm chocolate brownie with ice cream. All evening seems to be happy hour in Taganga so we treated ourselves to a couple of Mojitos by the beach.
