Crossing the Ecuador-Colombia border was hassle free, we left about 7.30am as the bus to Cali is 10 hours. We did get conned into buying Pesos as we were told we needed them for the taxi to the bus terminal on the Colombian side which we didn't in the end, luckily we only changed less than US$2 worth (3,000 Colombian Pesos). We managed to haggle the price of the bus to Cali slightly as it was leaving within 20 minutes so they wanted to fill the spaces. The first half of the journey was winding roads on the mountainside, the scenery was fantastic and I was intrigued by the houses on the side of the road which seemed to be miles from anything. There were a few small villages with petrol stations, restaurants and small snack shops, one of which we stopped at for lunch. We only had the 3,000 Pesos from earlier which we bought a coke with, about all we could afford! We had already prepared though and had snacks with us, Nathan has made good use of his lunchbox the last couple of days! The roads became better (smoother and straighter) past Pasto as we weren't travelling around the mountains but driving through countryside. The journey turned out to be more like 13 hours so it was gone 10.30pm by the time we arrived in Cali, we went to Sunflower Hostel in a quieter part of the city and went out hoping to find somewhere open for dinner. Just around the corner from the hostel were loads of lively bars surrounding a park area, we found one of them which was still doing food and it turned out to be one of the best meals yet! Nathan ordered nachos and they came fully loaded with salad, sour cream, guacamole, chicken, fried beans and salsa. I had chicken stuffed with melted cheese, it was soo good (this might have also been because we were so hungry by this point)!
