Katie's Travels
Cairo, Egypt
Hi guys,
Well I have just finished a 2 week tour of Egypt with Budget Expeditions, where I have seen some amazing sights and met some pretty cool people.
Here's a quick run down on what I saw and when...
28th April - Arrived in Cairo
29th April - Cairo
Headed out into the city by myself... a little stressful but I survived! If you think Queenslanders are bad drivers think again, I have never seen such dodgy driving. Went to explore a mosque at the Citadel which was very peaceful - in contrast to the rest of this crazy city! Met the group and went for dinner to sample some weird 'is it meat or isn't it' style foods... yum!
30th April - Cairo
The Pryamids of Giza - yes they are amazing and the panoramic view from across the desert was unbelieveable. Got a look from up close and inside the 2nd biggest. Rode camels to get there! Saw the Sphinx but it wasn't as big as I had expected.
1st May - Aswan
Our overnight train took 14 hours (of fun, of course). Went to Phile Temple (temple of lovers), which was stunning. Wandered around the colourful markets in the afternoon.
2nd May - Abu Simbel
Up at 3am to catch the security convoy to Abu Simbel - 2 giant temples (for Rameses II and his wife) carved from stone which were also amazing! In the evening it was a cruise along the Nile to get to a Nubian village where we spent a few hours with the locals, got henna tatoos and had a traditional dinner and show put on for us.
3rd May - Felucca Day 1!
