Krys & Toni's World Adventure
Hi everyone,
well our time in Singapore was feeting but we managed to se and do quite a bit.
We arrived mid afternoon on Friday and decided to go and see this island called Sentosa island in the south, which is supposed to have lots of touristy things on it like an underwater world and musical fountains. By the time we'd eaten and travelled across the city/country (it's one and the same) it was getting late and most of the things to see would be shut. So we decided to go back to our hostel.
One thing we noticed about Singapore was, and this may sound a little boring, but the public transport was really good. It was clean, efficient, ran on time, was cool and cheap. We thought this could be the reason for the absence of traffic jams, which is really wierd considering the size of the place. We also realised that Singapore is built for shoppers (Toni was in heaven). There were shopping centres everywhere, not just shops but centres full of them, hundreds of them.
Yesterday we went to Singapore zoo and night safari. It was really good, alot of the animals weren't in cages and the only thing between you and them were moats (although in some cases there were electric wires in the way too). A joint favourite for both of us was the Polar Bear, although the Baboons were quite cool and Toni's actual favourite was the Sloth (something about being able to run away from it if she needed to). However, highlights of the day were: we went to this 'wonder of wildlife' show and at the start this bloke came out dressed as some sort of 'tribesman'. After shouting and jumping around for a bit he walked into the audience and pulled Toni up to the front, in front of about a couple of thousand people. He made her shoot a balloon with a blow dart (which she got at only the second attempt), do a little 'tribal dance' and give some sort of tribal war cry. She got a big cheer from the audience after each and came back to her seat a very bright purple. Later in the show the woman presenting said that she'd lost one of the animals and started wandering around the audience looking for it. At this point Toni and I looked at a bag that was on the seat next to us(which we'd moved to be able to sit down) and realised what was going on. Anyway, she walked along our line, enquired about the bag and lo and behold there was a massive boa constrictor in it. Later in the day we went to the Night Safari, next door to the zoo, where you can watch the nocturnal animnals at work rest and play. Basically it's a zoo that you look around at night, watching the animals that you've seen in the daytime, at night. Good money making ploy i thought, but Toni thought i was being cynical. At one point we went through an area with massive bats flying around. One of the bats flew over head and decided to relieve itself over the crowd of people walking through, and guess who got hit.......yep you guessed it, Toni did. It hit her in the eye. We asked an warden if it was safe and he just laughed and recommended that she put the lottery on. Apparently Bat poo is as lucky as the bird kind.
Today we decided to have a look around the different areas of Singapore. There's an Arab quarter, Little India (where we stayed) and Chinatown. They were all colourful areas with little markets, brightly coloured buildings and various religious buildings.
Singapore was fun, right now we're at the airport waiting for our flight to Bali, taking advantaqe of the free internet (there's a pool on the roof too, very fancy). There's world cup football on everywhere too, it's delayed by an hour and we don't mind.
Hope you all well and looking after youselves. Lots of love,
Krys and Toni
