Well, this is just a quickie, since we're home now and just feel like we should leave the website tidy! Pretty sure no-one's going to read this so it's a little like talking to myself which could probably get me sectioned. Won't linger on that thought.
In short, after fox glaceir we also visited Franz Joseph glacier, but only walked to the foot of that one. We slowly then made our way back to the (warmer) north island, via the able tasman national park. We did a days kayaking through this beautiful area, where we were approached by some really playful seals. They loved jumping around my oar; very cute. My arms felt like I'd been lifting elephants all day by the end (whatever that might feel like!). Also visited farewell spit at the north of the south island, and where Krys kept going on about the birdlife (actual birds, not women. Not sure which would be more disturbing).
Once back in north island we first headed to Lake Taupo, where we visited a fab thermal spring. Just a really hot pool in the middle of the woods. Also went to craters of the moon, which was lots of holes with steam coming out basically. Gave you the impression you may be blown to bits at any moment! Nice waterfall/gorge called huka falls too.
So on to rotorua. The place honestly stank like eggs from the sulpher- it was gross! Don't know how people live there. Maybe it's like poeple with pets who's houses smell, and they don't even notice it! Went to another really interesting thermal place called something I can't remember, with hot bubbling muds, geysers and hot falls. Just to round off the thermal experience we founf a deserted stream in the middle of a forest where we soaked in the hot springs. Unfortunately then loads of other people turned up, inlcuding a man in speedos, so it was time to leave.
Last few things we did in rotorua were some of my favourites in NZ. Went on a Mauri night, where we had traditional Mauri meal, they performed the haka and put on a show. We also went zorbing, which was v. much fun. Basically got in a big rubber ball with water in the bottom and they pushed us down a hill. Me and Krys did it together, and it was so funny. I was doing some sort of laugh/scream all the way down. Couldn't stop giggling. Sooooo good.
Spent our last few days in NZ in the bay of plenty sun bathing and topping up the tans before Fiji.
lots of love,
toni and krys
