Spent the last few days in the city of Nha Trang. It's a very cool city where Vietnamese traffic meets Russian tourists and western sports bars. We weren't here long but we definitely got bang for our buck.
We got in early off of my first night bus experience - which wasn't as bad as I had expected to be honest. We grabbed breakfast right away and headed for the diveshop.
We wanted to do our advanced open water diver certification which would let us do fun dives up to 30m anytime. We booked in at The Sailing Club because they were super accommodating with our quick timeline, plus they were a super deal.
After arriving and doing the necessary paperwork, we were out on the boat straight away. We did three dives the first day, all in pretty poor visibility. The first one we did buoyancy activities (like hovering and head stands), the second we did some fish identification (coolest fish spotted was a bright yellow trumpet fish - see photos), and then a navigation activity where we had to use a compass to find our way around. Despite the poor visibility, we had a great time.
The second day we had to do our deep dive. Our instructor Kuong warned us that the visibility would probably be worse, like half a meter. He was right. We did make it down to 27 meters and spent most of it nearly attached at the elbows. For the second dive we moved around the island where the waves were pretty choppy but the visibility was better so we got to check out some cool reefs and fish and do a final activity - search and recovery.
Overall it was a great experience. While I had a blast diving with the dives quad in Thailand, it was really cool diving with someone you know well. Kurtis and I are basically a dream team and helped each other out to snap some epic GoPro pictures.
Unfortunately we didn't get to explore too much of the city beyond the beautiful beaches, but we did get to sample some great food and a couple beers (the hostel had the infamous free-beer happy hour).
I'm definitely looking forward to diving more in the future and going deep to see what I can see. Unfortunately, I had to say good by to the other half of the dream team and end the couples vacation, but I'm sure we will connect again soon - hopefully for a dive or two.
Stay weird and go deep.

Kelleyanne Very coo, Kyle! When you're back in Canada brockville and the 1000 islands is known for its diving! You'll have to come for a visit and see a shipwreck. Safe travels to Australia! Love you!
